  • No spellcheck!!!

    By @srgdvd
If only there was a spellcheck in this app. There is nothing more annoying and off-putting than reading something with typos and grammatical errors. It distracts from the meaning and completely destroys credibility of the author. Writing on the phone allows to capture ideas anywhere and as soon as the inspiration hits you. But on the small screen and tiny keyboard, on the go, even with predictive text usage, there would remain typos. Proofreading what’s just been typed is usually not an option and not a task that we should be doing in this day and age, at least not proofreading for misspelling typos. So many other (and free) note-taking apps would underscore in red the mistyped words, some even do grammar, and for feee (e.g., MS Word for iOS). But not Bear and the subscription won’t buy it for you either. If you spot a typo yourself, you can touch the word and the proper spelling would be suggested, otherwise Bear just ignores any and all misleading. What’s most frustrating is knowing that spellcheck is a default functionality available anywhere in native iOS text entry (Calendar, Reminders, Notes, Mail etc.) meaning that this functionality is already available in the standard iOS libraries which use on the local downloaded dictionaries. Why not just use them? And/or there are numerous free web services which perform spellcheck in the online mode (such as what’s used in Google Docs). What’s the use of this writing app if it doesn’t help proper writing, if I need to copy all my text to MS Word (right on iPhone) to see and fix typos there before I can generate and publish my articles? If the cost of subscription cannot cover such a basic function, what is it good for, and what else is missing? (I have answers to the last question, but it’s for another post, if I would even stick with this app in its present implementation.)
  • Make the FAB more functional

    By Explorgo
When I tap the floating action button to create a new note, I’d love to see some quick formatting options to choose from. I often want to quickly write a checklist or a itemized list and find it annoying that I have to take the extra time to choose those components myself. These notes could also display in the user’s list of notes with a simple checkmark or radio button type icon. Though simple, this is the kind of feature that will pull people away from bothering with Wunderlist, etc. I’m a UX designer and would love to help your team test more scenario-based design strategies like this, so feel free to reach out. I hope this helps!
  • Almost perfect, but missing key features

    By BeingDS
This app is great. I love using it, I love what it outputs... but I’m looking for a replacement. For 18 months, they’ve been promising to add simple features like tables, LaTeX compatibility, superscript, and subscript. And... nothing. Worse, their Twitter account now says they will have to scrap the whole app and begin again from scratch if they are to add these things. I need to transcribe my university notes today... not in a year or two or whenever they decide to get their act together. Very sad. If they sucked, I’d move on and not even leave a review. This hurts because they’re 90% perfect, but seem unwilling or unable to make the last little push to be flawless.
  • Elegant, Intuitive, & Powerful

Sounds like ad copy for the “all new 2019 Cadillac Something-Or-Other”, right? Maybe not. Anyhoo, Bear is by far and away the most robust yet easily navigable app of its kind* that I’ve ever seen. That asterisk denotes the fact that I’m not even sure what “kind” of app this is - a notebook? Yes, indeed! A customizable, super searchable document database? Yup! I use it mainly as a kind of butterfly net, a metaphor wherein my random creative ideas are butterflies. Don’t you want that in your life?
  • One of the few best note taking apps!

    By TonyTWoof56
This app has helped me take many of notes in my time of using it, and has exceeded my expectations! The notes look very professional as well as when printed, and have many extra perks/ options then most other apps. Even with out the subscription the app is very easy to use, straight to the point, no ads, and over all a great user experience.
  • Stunning, clean design, good features

    By coppenhagenloop
Without having to purchase upgrades, the app alone is quite impressive. Like I’m not even the type to write reviews but this is beyond believable. I can see myself using this for a while and would upgrade in the future just to support them. Here’s this gist of it: -features are placed wisely so that it doesn’t look overwhelming -color choices aren’t tacky -impressive design -option to add in photo/drawing! Only “downside” is you aren’t able to adjust/crop the photos you add. You could just edit that yourself in photo app though.
  • This is what I’m looking for

  • Best app ever...

    By srfisher101
I’ve had iPhones/iPads since they were first available and I currently have an iPhone XS Max, an eleven inch IPad Pro, an Apple Watch Series 4 Cellular, and an iMac Pro. I retired in 2015 after 51 years in IT, including the first 21 years with IBM. I now say that Bear is the best and most useful app I have EVER used. My many thanks to the entire team at Shiny Frog!
  • Fantastic app!

This app is beautifully designed! I have recommended it to friends and they’ve fallen in love with the app! We use it to share ideas, podcasting, I personally use it for my blog when preparing a post, etc. it can literally be used for whatever you need. It’s such a clean app. I love the themes and hope for more in the future! Yes, I even subscribed and paid for the membership! I mean, why not?! This app is worth it!
