  • Frustraiting on IPad Pro 11”.

Why is it soo much different with mobile device like a IPad Pro 11” vs the IPad Pro earlier model 10.5? Doesn’t make sense. Looks completely different and not user friendly.
  • Quite possibly the worst word processor available

    By LouisPiper
This is a far cry from Word on Mac or Windows. Any keyboard shortcuts outside of copy/paste or bold/italic/underline are absent - writing a chem lab (which is all word processing with tables of data) is an absolute nightmare. Tap a character, tap options, tap subscript, type character, tap options, tap subscript, type character - 7 actions to add a subscript. Combine that with the fact that Word is the only app on my 12.9” 2018 iPad Pro that decides to rapidly flee memory the second I go anywhere else (like to reference a photo that I’m writing about). I’m not even going to talk about how absolutely horrible the Apple Pencil is with this app. I would love nothing more than to stop using this app and do everything in Notability. I’d rather write the papers in Notes than use this. But everything requires .docx so here we are. If you can avoid this app, please do.

I have a word document on my iPhone that I’ve been maintaining for about 5 months. I shade records everyday as we go through the document day by day. All of the sudden on April 18, 2019, I noticed a new icon for Word. When I opened up the document, all of the shading is gone... this is unreliable and unacceptable!

  • Getting worse

When I switch between Mac and iPad, I lose track changes. Apparently they are implemented differently on this platform and are unstable when I make the move. Since I use this mainly for tracking changes at work, I am beginning to wonder what the point is. Previous review follows: Getting better One improvement lately is the ability to insert footnotes or endnotes into the same document. The biggest improvement is the ability to click note reference numbers to move between the body of a text and endnotes. On the downside, this version crashes on my 9.4" iPad Pro more often than it should. (I'm working with files of some 8,000 to 1,000 words with maybe 100 endnotes, but no fancy formatting. This version also frequently forgets what I just did, making reliance on the undo function riskier than it should be. On my wish list: - extras on the keyboard like cursor and tab keys; - the ability to hide the menu up top as needed; - text flow feature like on iPhone; and - match style with find/replace. Finally, changing the proofing language of a file does not change the language of the comments. That's a problem on the Mac too, but at least there I can change the language by individual comment. (This matters for those of us who work with authors in other countries with other default settings.)
