5 best smartphones on MediaTek

Based on materials from phonearena.com

After years of successful competition in the entry-level smartphone segment in the Chinese market, the company MediaTek looks set to expand into other segments and other markets around the world.

As far as can be said now, there are two levels of expansion for MediaTek. The first one is the company's desire to develop the European and North American markets. The second is the ambition to overcome the company's image as a manufacturer of low-cost entry-level smartphones.

About a month ago, the company announced the Helio X20, the first mobile chipset with a 10-core processor. While the X20 isn't exactly a top-end solution, MediaTek seem confident that it has enough power for future high-end smartphones. According to one particularly curious rumor, manufacturers such as HTC, Sony, LG and others are going to build future smartphones with Helio X20.

And while there is still time before it will be possible to check if the Helio X20 from MediaTek matches what the manufacturer promises, we can look at the best phones on chipsets MediaTek that are available on the market now.

HTC One M9 +

2

HTC The One M9 +, the Asian variant of this year's flagship HTC, differs significantly from the regular One M9. In the context of this article, we are primarily interested in the fact that it replaces the Snapdragon 810 with the MediaTek MT6795 chipset, also known as the Helio X10.

The 5.5-inch display has a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels, which is both larger and sharper than the 5-inch 1080p display of the regular One M9.

Moreover, the One M9 + has a fingerprint reader that the regular version of the device does not have. Other specs include 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory expandable with microSD cards, a dual main camera module (20MP main sensor plus a 2.1MP depth-sensing camera) and a 4MP front camera. All this wealth is powered by a non-removable 2840 mAh battery.

The Helio X10 features 8 2.2GHz ARM Cortex A53 cores and a PowerVR Rogue G620 GPU, the fastest chipset from MediaTek to date. Independent benchmarks show it to be quite competitive in the highest mid-market segment in the smartphone chipset market. Combined with a high resolution like the M9 Plus, the Helio X10 can run most games, but fails when it comes to the most graphics-intensive games available for Android.

Gionee Elife S7

3

Gionee Elife S7, known by various names outside of China, is one of the thinnest smartphones available today. At just 5.5mm thick, the 2750mAh battery is the same capacity as the Galaxy S6.

Elife S7 is powered by MediaTek MT6752 chipset, which includes an 8-core 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex-A53 processor and an ARM Mali-T760MP2 graphics accelerator. It is less powerful than the Helio X10 and shows an average performance. The 5.2-inch 1080×1920 pixel display is a bit overwhelming when it comes to graphics-intensive games, but in most cases the MT6752 will do just fine.

Gionee Elife S7 is also equipped with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal (without a slot for microSD), as well as a 13 MP main camera and 8 MP front. All in all, this is a slim smartphone with decent specs, which despite its shortcomings shows that a smartphone with MediaTek can be quite interesting in terms of hardware at an average price.

Sony Xperia C4

4

The 'Selfiphone' from Sony Xperia C4 is another interesting smartphone based on the chipset from MediaTek. A distinctive feature of this mid-range smartphone is the front-facing LED flash, which complements the 5MP front-facing camera.

Like the Gionee S7, the Sony Xperia C4 is based on the MediaTek 6752 chipset. Other characteristics: 1080×1920 pixels, but this time with a larger 5.5-inch display, 2 GB of RAM , 13 MP main camera and 16 GB of internal memory (the Xperia C4 has a microSD slot).

Interestingly, while the thickness of 7.9 mm is noticeably more than that of the Gionee Elife S7, the Xperia C4's battery is slightly weaker at 2600 mAh.

Meizu MX4

5

Unlike the rest of the smartphones on the list, which are based on the latest generation 64-bit processors from MediaTek, this one uses the MT6595 chipset, which was the company's top-end solution before it announced the MT67 line. The MT6595 includes four 2.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A17 cores and four 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex-A7 cores, as well as the PowerVR G6200 MP4 graphics accelerator.

The most significant feature Meizu is the high resolution display with very thin edges. Its diagonal is 5.36 inches, the resolution is 1152 × 1920 pixels. Other notable features include a 20.7 MP main camera and a 3100 mAh battery. The Meizu MX4 also has 16/32/64 GB of internal memory, a microSD slot, a 2 MP front camera and 2 GB of RAM.

Vivo X5 Max Platinum Edition

6

According to Western views, this smartphone has a strange name, but in fact, it is a rather good device in terms of characteristics. It is powered by the MediaTek MT6752 chipset, has an impressive 4150mAh battery, and despite this is 7.3mm thick.

The rest of the specs are quite good for the upper middle segment. It features 3GB of RAM, 5.5-inch 1080 x 1920 display, a 13MP primary camera, 32GB of internal storage expandable with microSD cards, and a 5MP front camera.
