Again about smartphones for loved ones

In one of the issues of get-togethers, I talked about the fact that I often see elderly people in the subway with Kindle, Xiaomi and other gadgets that they would hardly have bought themselves. Then the readers noted that maybe moms and dads got 'rags' from children. Today, I propose to discuss the specifics of buying gadgets for loved ones, if we still take new devices to them, and do not give our own.

Again about smartphones for loved ones

A year ago, we published an article dedicated to teaching inexperienced users the intricacies of working with a smartphone. Then I wrote that it is important to choose the same operating system that you use yourself. And now I thought, is it so important? For example, when I bought my mom a Samsung Galaxy S3, my main device was a smartphone with Android. Now I switched to iOS, but would I transfer my mom to an iPhone too? No, it just doesn't make sense. She will not appreciate all those nice little things that iOS gives, but she will have to get used to the new system again. In addition, its use cases do not require an expensive smartphone.

On the other hand, I know that iMessage and Facetime are two of the most requested features for parents, so children periodically buy them new iPhones or give them their old ones. In general, my question for today is simple: do you buy for your parents what you use yourself (smartphone, tablet, e-book, computer) or do you rely on other criteria?
