Android at a dead end

The end Android in our usual form is inevitable

Android at a dead end

Although Microsoft did not do itself any favors, I am firmly convinced that all this shenanigans and waving hands were not the answer to iPhone. The main enemy was the company, which, long before the appearance iPhone, closely watched the ambitions Microsoft in the part of the phone market.

This company was, of course, Google and iPhone they only wanted to touch on a tangent. Google's real target has always been Microsoft and then they hit the bull's-eye. (Dieter Bon, The Verge)

The article tells about the events of the past years, let me take the opportunity to formulate what for many may come as a surprise in the near future.

Android at a dead end

I actually want to write a much more detailed and in-depth analysis in an article that would explain my hypothesis, but I can not yet fully voice my arguments or point out the reason that I have been carrying this idea for several months. All this does not mean that Google will leave the mobile OS market, or that 'Android' will disappear as a brand. All this means that our current understanding of Android (core Linux with a set of libraries, Android Runtime, etc.) has outlived itself, fulfilling its purpose to create visible competition is outdated and should disappear.

Android in its current form suffers from several key architecture issues that Google seems unable to address. It can be said that the 'green robot' does not differ in the efficiency of using available resources, has constant problems with updates, and, among other things, still suffers from periodic performance problems, despite the cool 'hardware'. Android as if under lock and key, waiting for something, as if Google is working on something that can later replace Android.

Android at a dead end

Is this 'something' Fuchsia? Or is Project Treble part of the plan for Google to switch Android from Linux to something else? If the current version Android could still be salvaged, why are some of the best Google hired OS engineers working on Fuchsia instead of Android? If these were simple OS developments, then why would the developers add real wallpapers for Fuchsia to the GitHub repository? Why was each Fuchsia word solution specially created to solve one of the key problems Android?

I do not like to predict something headlong based purely on intuition and 'spider instinct', they are difficult to interpret and they can lead completely in the wrong place, but I am quite sure of this: in 2-3 years Android is waiting for a radical transformation. It will be almost invisible to users: their next Android – the device actually will not be exactly Android in the usual sense, but the same applications will work on it, so they will not care, but it will not be a device with Linux and problems Android.

In a few years, the Google Pixel will be powered by the original Google SoC and an operating system that will resemble Android only in name.

Original material by Tom Holverda

A bold attempt to analyze Google's inner workings on new products in light of the future for Android. Of course, as the author himself notes, his interpretations are still difficult to consider as something logically justified. As I see it, they are news and rumors collected together, from which a rather loud statement made in the headline was obtained by deductive method. This does not mean that I do not admit such a scenario, perhaps the author has some irrefutable proof of his theory.

In the penultimate sentence, I was struck by the similarity with the model that he uses in his smartphones Apple. Closed OS, processors of our own production – what are the non-components for victory? Or is this not enough in modern conditions?
