Auto-updating apps on Google Play is evil

A year ago, I did not pay attention to this moment at all, but now I started. And with the increase in the number of applications on my smartphone (and believe all of them, necessary, like others!), The problem is only getting worse. Now this happens almost every day.

I'm talking about app updates on a smartphone. Every day, in the evening, my device “thinks” for a short time in order to download and install updates for the next 5-10 applications. Some programs are updated once a week, every two weeks, others almost every day. Probably, their developers care so much about their users or screwed up so much at the start that patches have to be released every 20-30 hours. I dont know. One thing I know for sure, the current situation, when there are about a hundred applications on the device and most of them are updated every few days, personally tires me.

And here there are two options, where the choice of one is not at all obvious, to be honest.

I have situations that I need to go to China, then I immediately turn off the application update in the Google Play settings. The fact is that the Chinese Internet is different from ours (super fast, I'm not kidding), from the European (normal), and even from the American (tolerant). In China, even if you have free Wi-Fi at your hotel, Starbucks and anywhere else, assume you have Dial-up (speed). One application, which can swing 20-30 megabytes when updated, will take hours to update on the Chinese “Internet”. So, as I said above, it's easier to just turn off auto-updates for the duration of a business trip.

And it turns out that even if I haven't updated everything to one application for a week, without exceptions, they also work great. Amazing! Although in reality, of course, the situation is strange. It would seem that a developer can release an update when he has accumulated a really significant number of changes and edits, but instead, judging by the daily updates of various programs, 'updates' are made for any reason. Have you removed the space in the menu description? – We are rolling out the update! Fixed a bug that occurred in 10 out of 1,000,000 users? – We are rolling out the update! Have you changed the icon in the third level menu? – Update!

Today, when the Internet is available and cheap, it seems that not only users, but also developers are spoiled by its availability. Previously, updates and updates of applications, games, whatever it was, were an important event, showed the attitude of developers towards users (we are great, we do not forget you). Now the value of updates tends to zero, applications are updated daily, and most of us simply do not keep track of who and what added in the next update to their program.

Therefore, out of two scenarios: leave auto-updates for programs in Google Play or turn it off, I will most likely choose the second one. It's easier to open Google Play every two weeks and press the 'Refresh All' button than to receive daily 10-20 minute sessions of smartphone thoughtfulness at incomprehensible moments.
