The famous portal puzzle game has been branched out into the bridge constructor.
The Portal series is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It was developed by Valve Corporation, familiar to many from the games Half-Life, Counter Strike, Dota 2, Team Fortress and the site for selling games Steam. Also, many people know the founder of the company Gabe Newell, who is famous for his dislike of the number three.
To celebrate Portal's anniversary, Valve has released a new game in the series. But this turned out to be not the third part, but a branch with a completely different gameplay – Bridge Constructor Portal. And the game was not developed by Valve itself, but by the little-known company ClockStone Software.
As a result, we got not the usual first-person puzzle with portals and a special gun, but a bridge construction simulator with characters and elements from the original game. Portals, a GLaDOS AI computer, cubes, turrets, repulsive and accelerating gels, lasers and much more meet here.
The gameplay is based on the construction of bridges and ramps from beams and ropes. It is advisable to use as few materials as possible, but there are no restrictions on this. The player's task is to drive at least one car from one point to another. But it is better to make a structure that can withstand several cars at once in order to create additional complexity for yourself.
When building, you need to take into account the basic laws of physics of object behavior. For example, it is better not to dump the car on the bridge from a height, but to let it smoothly drive over it.
At the first levels, it seemed to me that this game is only outwardly trying to be similar to the original Portal. But this is how it looks only at the first levels. Then, portals, gels and other attributes are included in the process, which radically change the methods of passing levels, and it becomes much more fun.
Some levels remind me directly of the same Portal with its strange but interesting tasks. At the same time, the game has a trademark absurd humor, which is mainly transmitted through GLaDOS.
Just look at this level:
The controls are well adapted for touch screens. But playing on a smartphone is not very convenient because of the size, because you have to constantly move the camera away and closer. So I recommend choosing a tablet or a computer. Moreover, the game on Russian Steam costs 259 rubles, and on Google Play and the App Store – 379 rubles.
The game has a total of 60 levels. This is not enough when you consider the price. The first two dozen levels are passed easily and quickly, and then you have to think, but it is unlikely that it will take more than 5 minutes for one solution. With diligence, the entire game can be completed in 3 hours. And it is a pity that the developers have not made several free levels to get acquainted with the game, not everyone will want to give almost 400 rubles for a game for a smartphone without trying it out.
I hope that in the future, developers will add more levels, and even better to make a constructor, so that users can create tasks for other players themselves, as is done in Portal 2.
