Euclidea – a game for those who did not skip geometry

Euclidea - a game for those who did not skip geometry

I will introduce you to the game Euclidea, which will help you remember your school geometry and drawing lessons, armed with a virtual compass and a ruler.

I loved geometry at school. I liked drawing, solving problems with the construction of figures, building projections. It turned out well, if you do not take into account my laziness to learn formulas. School is over, geometry has long been forgotten, but somewhere in the depths there is a love for it. Therefore, I met the Euclidea game with special enthusiasm.

The game meets with a quote from the ancient Greek mathematician Euclid, in it, in general, there are often phrases of scientists, one way or another related to geometry. From the main menu we go to the section with levels from 13 sets. There are 131 tasks in total. Traditionally, it all starts with learning and getting to know the mechanics. At each level, they give out a set of tools and a field where there are many points / or lines. From this you need to construct another shape using the tools.

We arm ourselves with a compass

I will explain the gameplay using the example of the very first level. You are given three points, randomly spaced around the field, and a line tool. From all this you need to build a triangle. The solution is simple – draw three straight lines through the vertices of the triangle. Further in your assortment there will be a circle, a perpendicular, a bisector and other tools that will be needed to solve other, more complex problems.

At first, the levels seem quite simple. Construct the bisector of the angle, restore the perpendicular, inscribe the circle into the rhombus. But already by the third set of levels, called 'gamma', I repeatedly had to consult school reference books on the Internet to refresh my knowledge. The application has its own glossary, but there is only introductory information on the main figures, this is not enough. With a separate button, you can see the solution to the problem without constructions, this will help you better understand the task.

Freemium

The game is available for free on Google Play. There are no advertisements in it, but there are still some restrictions. For passing each, you can get up to three stars: one is given for any correct decision, the second for the use of a certain number of tools and the third for a limited number of moves. These stars are required to unlock the following sets of levels. The most interesting thing is that almost at all levels it is impossible to get three stars for the same solution at once. Therefore, each problem has several solutions that need to be found. Otherwise, you will not get access to the rest of the levels. If you don't want to strain yourself with a complete solution of all tasks, then you can open all levels by paying 60 rubles.

Outcome

You get an interesting geometric problem solving game for free. Despite its involvement in the school course, Euclidea is surprisingly fun, even for those who are not fond of math and drawing. At least at the first levels, where tasks are more or less simple. It will be more difficult further. The game is also available for iOS.

Thank you for attention.
