It's nice to know that employees of huge corporations, developers who create things that are used by millions of people around the world are people just like you and me. For example, once the guys from Google got stuck on the confectionery topic – probably everyone knows about the names of versions Android, not only geeks. But few already know that at least one of the engineers of the same company is well versed in fish. Even if you already know that the codename for each of the Pixel phones is the name of a fish, just look at these 'faces'! Relax, read the text to yourself in the voice of Nikolai Drozdov, break away from the tables with characteristics and performance tests, get closer to nature. Go!

First Pixel: Sailfish
The sailboat is a three-meter handsome man, which is one of the fastest fish in the world. A hundred kilograms of weight does not prevent him from developing a speed of up to 10 m / s. A sailboat needs a peculiar thorn on the bow not for beauty – it is used for hunting and protection. Swinging back and forth quickly, the predator can deal with both the one he is going to eat and the one who intends to eat him. You can imagine how creepy the 'battlefield' looks.
The sailboat is quite widespread, and nothing threatens its numbers at present.
Pixel XL: Marlin (marlin)
Marlin belongs to the same 'line' of fish and also has a characteristic 'thorn' nose shape. There are 10 types of marlin, the most famous are the black marlin from the coastal waters of the Indian and Pacific Ocean, as well as the Atlantic blue marlin. Like the previous hero, this is a very fast fish, the weight and size are also impressive – from 635 to 816 kg and over 5 m in length. Like its close relative the sailboat, the marlin uses its thorn for protection and hunting.
Blue and white marlins are endangered due to uncontrolled extermination. It used to be a common thing to rent a boat to catch a couple of these fish, but now, fortunately, only sport fishing for marlin is allowed on the 'catch-release' principle.
Pixel 2: Walleye (walleye)
Pike perch is a freshwater fish best known for its taste. It can reach a length of about 80 cm and weigh up to 9 kg. Interestingly, the English name Walleye comes from the location of the eyes. Each of them is turned outward so that it looks like a fish is looking at the walls. Zander's eyes can also reflect light at night, and if the fish swam in shallow water in clear water, you can even see it.
Pixel 2 XL: Taimen (taimen)
Siberian taimen is the largest salmon in the world, reaching impressive sizes (up to 210 cm) and weight (up to 105 kg). Its habitat is very large – it is Asia, the Caspian basin, the Pacific basin and the Arctic Ocean basin.
Taimen is also a river fish that feeds mainly on other fish, but sometimes does not disdain terrestrial animals such as rodents, reptiles and birds. Due to the large size and teeth characteristic of most salmonids, one might think that taimen could pose a danger to humans, but not a single case of its attack on humans has been recorded.
Taimen is a popular object of sport fishing based on the 'catch and release' principle. Interestingly, being a relative of chinook salmon and salmon, it does not migrate upstream during spawning.
Pixel 3: Blueline (tile)
This is a deep-sea fish that prefers a depth of 73-238 m. Its life span can reach 25 years, and its length is 89 cm. It is also popular among fans of sport fishing, but, unfortunately, not only. Many fishermen perceive the tile as a win-win when they cannot catch something else. When you go to the places of congestion, you can be sure that you will not return empty-handed. But despite this, nothing threatens the tile population. This is largely due to government regulation of fishing. It is hoped that the situation will not change for the worse.
Pixel 3 XL: Crosshatch (balistode)
Balistode is a beautiful fish from the triggerfish family that lives in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean among the Hawaiian reefs. Anyone who has diving and snorkeling and came across these cute creatures will tell you two things: they are big and they will not be afraid to attack. Watch out, careless diver!
The family name comes from the unique location of the dorsal fins of this fish. The large fin is fixed in an upright position by raising the second, shorter one. And the only way to make the longer fin go down is to press the short one down. Thus, triggerfish can swim into small caves or be too prickly for those who plan to feast on them. Both are excellent defense mechanisms.
Pixel 3a: Sargo (sarg)
Sargis are protogenic hermaphrodites, that is, fish that can change sex throughout life. Having started life as a male, the sarg can later turn into a female if there is a biological necessity, for example, there is a shortage of females. Many other marine fish also exhibit this property, such as the orange-and-white clownfish, which became famous for the cartoon 'Finding Nemo'.
Pixel 3a XL: Bonito (bonito, or Atlantic bonito)
'Bonito' means 'beautiful' in Spanish and Portuguese, but it is also the name of a group of marine fish related to mackerel, reaching approximately 7 kg in weight and 76 cm in length.
Bonito can be found in all the oceans of the world. This fish is a popular fish, primarily because its hard meat tastes like tuna. And if you are a grill lover, then you simply must try the freshly caught bonito steak with the addition of mint and jalapeno peppers.
Pixel 4: Flame (fiery angel, or fiery centropig)
The 'Flame' in the Pixel 4's codename means a fiery angel – one of the most beautiful reef fish ever.
It is an inhabitant of most of the coral reefs in the Pacific Ocean and is found in abundance in Hawaii, a real Mecca for divers. A lot of people are drawn under the water to look at a miniature ten-centimeter beauty, peacefully eating algae and small crustaceans.
The fire angel is very popular as an aquarium fish, however, it requires an aquarium of the right size with many nooks and crannies. In captivity, you can wean him off a diet of algae and crustaceans and force him to eat pellets. Usually it works.
Pixel 4 XL: Coral (two-pronged centropig, or gloomy angel)
We conclude the fish day with one of the most beautiful reef fish. Agree, the name 'dark angel' suits her more than 'centropig'. One way or another, this fish has a lot in common with the previous one. This is a gravitation towards the reefs of the Indo-Pacific region and is small in size – only up to 8 cm. In the wild, the main part of the diet consists of crustaceans and molluscs, since the angel is able to bite through their shells with his powerful teeth.
There is also a deep-sea version of this species, which is colored brown-yellow instead of bright orange and blue.
It is unlikely that all this invaluable information will help you increase the battery life of your 'pixel' or bring it closer to the ideal in any other way. But it at least makes you wonder why companies are so unanimous when they release models with boring and monotonous or deliberately pretentious names on the market. We invite you to comment on the intricacies of naming in the comments, share recipes for fish dishes and memories of the best catch in life. Good weekend!
