Flagships, but not quite

Closer to winter, a lot of things to do and work appear (I think many people do), in my case outside the house: I have to go somewhere to ride, often be on the road. And in this slightly new mode of life for me, I discovered an amazing feature of modern flagship smartphones, which I simply could not see before – a short battery life. In my case, we are talking about the Samsung Galaxy S7 EDGE, but I know for sure that the rest of the flagships in terms of battery life are at plus or minus the same level, so the reasoning is applicable to any expensive, top-end smartphone. And these arguments boil down to one simple thought – no modern flagship provides a normal battery life with active use.

Back to my SGS7 EDGE. My smartphone sits down with constant use on average for 6-9 hours, of which the active screen time is about 3-4 hours. Even on a not very busy day, when I leave the house on business at 12 o'clock and in the evening, at 20 o'clock, I return, I must recharge the device once from an external battery. If we are talking about working hours, for example, from 7-8 in the morning to 21-22 in the evening, then the device manages to discharge almost to zero one and a half or even two times, and, accordingly, it has to be charged not once, but several times . Sometimes it is charging in fits and starts, sometimes more comfortable when I throw the device with the battery into my backpack and leave it alone for half an hour or an hour. But, in any case, the situation is actually sad. And it is especially sad that there has been no visible progress in this area, frankly, for a long time.

For 10 years, phones have progressed in almost everything: from resolutions and screen diagonals to image quality, music sound and performance. And only the operating time remains the characteristic that absolutely did not move. As the first smartphones and communicators of later years worked for 10-20 hours with 3-6 hours of the screen, so modern smartphones demonstrate exactly the same indicators. There is progress, of course, but it is 'eaten up' by the increase in all characteristics, and the user actually does not see this progress.

Of course, there are quite a few smartphones that can work out more than modern flagships, among the striking examples are Meizu M3 Note and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, both with batteries approximately 4000 mAh, or in general Highscreen Boost 3, equipped with a heroic 6900 mAh battery. And such a smartphone without question will last one day without recharging, but there is one BUT. All of these devices are not flagships. Yes, good, decent, but not flagships. And there will not be the same quality as in the flagships, cameras, screens and some other things. And there are no real flagships with a capacious battery. And what about it?
