We continue the series of articles about the HTC One M8 and today we will talk about the disadvantages of the device, as well as what it could take from other flagships.
Camera
Perhaps one of the key drawbacks of both HTC One and HTC One M8. For the second year already, the company has been telling potential buyers about the wonderful ultrapixels, but the resentment of their quantity overrides their merits. With the camera HTC One M8, you can take cool macro shots, photos with blurred backgrounds, as well as high-quality photos in low light. But the overall resolution of the photos, of course, saddens, the camera is clearly not for landscapes or crops. Yes, and the figure of 4 megapixels, sorry, ultrapixels, looks somewhat scarce against the background of competitors.
However, judging by the One M9 leaks, the company finally decided to install a camera with a normal resolution, but whether it will be 18-20 ordinary megapixels or ultrapixels, we will know only after the announcement.
Overall dimensions
The second significant (for a number of users) drawback of the device is its impressive dimensions for its diagonal. This is especially true for height and, to a lesser extent, weight.
- Apple iPhone 5S – 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm, 112 grams
- HTC One (M8) – 146.4 x 70.6 x 9.4 mm, 160 grams
- LG G2 – 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9 mm, 143 grams
- Meizu MX3 – 139 x 71.9 x 9.1 mm, 143 grams
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3 – 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm, 168 grams
- Samsung Galaxy S5 – 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm, 145 grams
- Sony Xperia Z2 – 146.8 x 73.3 x 8.2 mm, 163 grams
I have been using the One M8 for over a month now and I cannot say that I am very worried about its sheer size. However, when you hold it next to some thinner and lighter smartphone (iPhone 6, for example), the difference, of course, is felt.
Memory size
In general, this is a common problem for manufacturers, but since it is present in the One M8, I'll tell you about it using his example. Surprisingly, the flagships for 30,000 (and now even 40,000) rubles install 16 GB of internal memory, of which a maximum of 10 GB is available. This position makes me very angry: I do not save on my smartphone, so why does the manufacturer save on me? It is clear that within the framework of large batches, saving on memory helps the company to earn more, but this does not make it easier for the end user. And yes, not even a memory card slot is an excuse.
Screen frames
In principle, everything is not so bad with the screen frames here, however, in my opinion, HTC it is worth following the competitors in this area. The same LG G2 / G3 or Meizu MX3 / MX4 frames look much thinner. This has a great effect on both the appearance and the impressions of the device.
Conclusion
The part about the shortcomings turned out to be small, because, in fact, there really are not so many of them. Summing up the monthly usage, I would like to note that I rather like the One M8 than not. Here, of course, it's all about priorities. The screen, the speed of operation and the appearance are important to me, so I am ready to forgive this device for its long length and average camera. And someone appreciates the photo capabilities of a smartphone and its dimensions, it is clear that for these people One M8 will not seem the best choice. Now all that remains is to wait for the announcement of the new flagship and see how well the company listens to users HTC.
P.S. Next week we will talk about flashing the device to Google Edition. Eh, shaking off the old days, I haven't done this for a couple of years.
