Is the latest version Android so important and which smartphone to take, if important?
Just today I finished the review Huawei of the Nexus 6P and caught myself on one very simple thought – for me the fresh version of the OS has long ceased to be an actual advantage. Starting with Android 4.1, all the necessary functions (except, Lord God, backup) have already appeared in the OS. But I already talked about this once, today I would like to discuss something else.
My mail and VKontakte constantly receive messages of approximately the same format: 'Eugene, hello! Please tell me, do you know when there will be an update to Android 5.0 / 6.0 for my smartphone X? '. And I look at this smartphone X and I understand that the company is unlikely to make an update for it even to 5.0. And the main thing is that this is not a matter of a specific company, as all brands do. Can you name at least one manufacturer on the fly that updates most of its smartphones in the current time frame? Here, except that Xiaomi and Meizu are worth remembering, but there the stock Android is practically invisible because of the branded shells. Some people like it, some don't, it's a matter of taste. But other manufacturers are in no hurry to update even the flagship models, the same Android 6.0 flagships will receive, God forbid, at the end of the year, if not in the next quarter.
And this is not classified information. Companies pay attention only to updates for flagships, and even then not always. Many publications constantly write about this, and on the forums they also often complain about it.
In such a situation, the best option would be to purchase one of the smartphones of the Google Nexus line, but for some reason, readers who ask me questions about updates are buying themselves other smartphones. And it would be okay to talk about inexpensive models, they often ask about last year's flagships! In today's column, I would like to remind you once again that you should not expect current updates from any of the major brands. Even if you buy the current flagship, the most you get is give or take regular updates during the first year. And this is normal, most users do not need these updates, some are even afraid to update: what if something breaks?
And finally, let me share one of the screenshots with xda-developers, which perfectly shows that the lack of updates is due only to the desire to save on the efforts of programmers and software developers.
