About how our world is changing on the example of one insignificant little thing.

When I was still studying at the institute, my old friend and I had a good tradition, a couple of times a month we met in the same pizzeria during a business lunch to chat. He was a very busy person, but at the same time it was very interesting for me to talk to him, so I chose this relatively free period of time in his schedule.

I remember very well how delicious it was in that pizzeria, but it was a period when money was not very good, so I could eat there with pleasure relatively rarely. I also thought: 'Well, will I ever have the money to order this, this and this?' That time has long passed and now I recall those thoughts with a grin, but I did not want to talk about them.

Last year, by coincidence, we met again at the same metro station and decided to go to a memorable pizzeria. Surprisingly, almost nothing has changed there in seven years. The same 50% discount for lunch time, the same interior and even the prices seemed almost the same. During the conversation, I noticed that I could not at all predict where I would be and who I would work in so many years. And I thought to myself that it would be great to meet here in another five years. And I decided to add a corresponding reminder to Google Calendar.

And when I had already finished typing in the necessary dates and reminders, I could not help but note how much our life has changed, even in such trifles as reminders. I remember that about 20 years ago people wrote letters to their future selves, put them in bottles and buried them under some tree. For now, a simple calendar reminder is enough. Of course, a fair amount of romance is lost, but we are all for practicality and convenience, right? Or not?
