Friday column number 129. Roaming at Beeline

A couple of days ago I was in New York, and I had to attend to the availability of mobile Internet. My last trip to this city was three years ago, then I used the services of MTS, whose tariffs for mobile Internet in the United States were very expensive (now I can't remember right away, but it turned out something around 50 rubles per MB or even more) .

In those days I was just starting to work, but I already knew that it was profitable to buy SIM cards from local operators. But the fact that you need to ask for prepaid cards, I was told after the trip.

I also read about Maps.me a little later, as a result, my entire stay in the city was significantly limited by the lack of mobile Internet, I even managed to get lost in these identical thin streets!

Beeline

On this trip I decided to take only the main card with me, there was no point in buying a prepaid card, since, in fact, I was in the city for 2.5 days, but I remembered about the new roaming options in Beeline. When we arrived, I regretted that I had not connected the option at home, I wanted to immediately go online. The caring operator, in addition to greeting, immediately warned that the first time you access the Internet, the option will be connected automatically. For those who do not know, let me remind you that in roaming in the United States, Beeline offers 40 MB of traffic for 200 rubles. Of course, this price will seem high to someone, but it completely suited me, given that before that I used 'travel without borders' from MegaFon, where 1 MB cost twice as much. Someone may be angry with such an automatic connection, but I assure you, if an inattentive subscriber turned on the Internet, then without the connected option he would have gotten to much larger amounts, and an attentive and conscious one would rather want to connect it on his own. In general, I just turned on my mobile Internet in roaming, and 200 rubles were immediately debited from me. If you exceed the traffic package, then each next MB will cost the same five rubles. The next day the service is reconnected only if there was an access to the network. I really liked this approach: you don't need to think about anything, look for USSD commands, or rummage through your personal account. A couple of taps in the smartphone and everything works.

But 200 rubles for incoming calls in roaming, on the contrary, upset. Let me explain why, using my example. I was in a jewelry store and bought a couple of jewelry as a gift, the bank's security service blocked the card and immediately called me back to clarify whether I had performed the operation. The call took less than a minute, but it cost 200 rubles, and this is a little offensive, because no one else called that day.

Of course, I would like the operator to immediately include per-minute and per-megabyte billing, I think that over time it will, but even in the current version, the Internet option is very good against the background of competitors. Especially if the Internet is needed for basic things: messengers, maps, mail, social networks.

By the way, the roaming Internet from the operator was also praised by readers in the latest 'Mobile Environment' about Beeline, and this, you see, is indicative.
