Friday column number 140. Extra charge for compactness

We are discussing whether compact smartphones would be in demand if they had to pay extra for their small size in comparison with competitors.

Nowadays smartphones with a diagonal of five inches and above have long been something common and familiar to any user, but geeks often like to feel nostalgic for the times of four to five years ago, when most devices could be operated with one hand.

But now there are practically no such compact models, and those that exist belong to the middle segment and are unlikely to satisfy demanding buyers. Away from this situation is the company Apple, but I would not like to talk about it in the context of today's topic.

Let me assume that the lack of small smartphones is due to the fact that they most likely will not be particularly popular and the money for their creation will simply not be repulsed.

But let's imagine a hypothetical situation. The company decides to satisfy the requests of geeks and releases a similar smartphone, however, wanting to make money on it, it puts the price on it three to five thousand higher than that of similar competitors. How many people do you think will buy such a novelty? I believe that there will not be very many of them, but that's why: the price plays a key role for the buyer, if he sees two devices with the same characteristics, he will not overpay for compact dimensions. I remember once writing about a couple of such models, commentators immediately began to point out that the devices are very expensive for their specs.

And although we are discussing compact smartphones today, my statement is true for any other additional functions. First, a person writes: 'Eh, I would like NFC, QuickCharge, wireless charging, optical stabilization, etc.', and then, when he sees such a device at a high price, he is outraged: 'Why is it so expensive?'

Do I have features that I would be willing to pay extra for? Perhaps, yes, take the same Honor 5c, if it had an oleophobic coating, I would take it with great pleasure, even if it is a thousand or two more expensive. But this is a matter of priorities only.

What do you think, dear readers? Are there any options that you would be willing to pay for? Or is the price a priority?
