Friday column number 143. Smartphone in the kitchen

What do you usually do with your smartphone in the kitchen? Are you preparing food? Listening to music or using Google Now tips? We discuss possible use cases.

Once I was visiting old friends of the family and saw a recipe book in the kitchen, in which the hostess carefully wrote down everything that she cooked. All the notes were handwritten, the old fashioned way, and it got me thinking, how many people use smartphones or other computer equipment to store their recipes?

In theory, this should be very convenient: any recipe is well laid out, if you want, you can increase / decrease the font, quickly send the text by mail or print right away. But in fact, I very, very rarely see people doing this. In general, now people either use the old recipes of their parents, or immediately look for the right dish on the Internet. To be honest, I do it myself and periodically cook according to the instructions from say7.info.

By the way, another very favorite use case by companies is voice prompts during cooking. Google especially loves showing you how you stand in the kitchen and start asking some culinary questions. For fun, I asked Google Now how many grams are in a tablespoon, and although the assistant answered me, everything you see in the screenshot below was spoken by a voice.

I myself use my smartphone in the kitchen mainly for two things. First, of course, for the music. I now have a speaker from Nillkin, through which I mostly listen to my favorite tracks, but before my eyes were enough for my smartphone speakers.

Occasionally I watch movies on the device, but there is a good rule: you shouldn't be distracted by other activities while eating (though it's hard to tell if music is a distraction).

By the way, Moto Z recently came to the test, so it with an accessory from JBL is perfect for both of my use cases. We'll talk more about the new product next week.

How do you use your smartphone in the kitchen? Do you cook with electronic recipes? Do you have a virtual copy of the cookbook? Do you listen to music while eating, or do you prefer TV / silence?
