Friday column number 158. Sound difference

Hello everyone! Some readers ask me in reviews why we do not reveal the topic of sound in this or that smartphone. I would like to share my thoughts on this matter.

For me, music plays an important role in life. I work to music, ride the subway and buses to music, relax with music, etc. I have tried many different headphones and smartphones and almost none of them have heard a huge difference in quality. To my taste, most good smartphones sound the same, and the last device whose sound quality was so bad that even I noticed it was some old one Lenovo from three years ago.

And I am inclined to assume that most users treat sound from the same philistine, not audiophile point of view. Music should please, and headphones should be comfortable. As for the sound quality, it is, of course, important, but still secondary to the music itself.

At the same time, if I tried to focus on the audiophile part of our audience, I simply would not be able to tell something useful, all this sand with sibilants fades into the background for me, I practically do not distinguish it.

On the other hand, if people ask, then such testing should be carried out. But then I decided that it makes sense to consult with you, dear audiophile readers. How would you like to see the audio part in our reviews? I understand that you need good headphones and a set of identical tracks (like the Prime CD1), but where is the edge of the headphones that will convey all the nuances of sound in a smartphone? Are they worth two, five, or even ten thousand? If you know for sure a model that is able to convey all the nuances of the sound of a particular device, then I would be glad to read about it in the comments.
