Friday column number 159. Stimulating applications

How often do you use stimulating apps to control yourself? Do you keep a diary? Are you counting steps and other activities? In the article, we will discuss how often people use a smartphone for such purposes and whether it copes with its tasks.

Friday column number 159. Stimulating applications

Hello everyone. A couple of years ago I wrote that personally, any pedometers do not stimulate me to walk more, and sleep sensors do not improve its quality. But in fact, in fact, there are many more applications and gadgets that monitor our life.

I recently made it a goal to drink two liters of water a day. In principle, for me this is an easily achievable goal, but sometimes you just forget to take a bottle of water from the refrigerator. I installed the appropriate application for myself and began to drive data there. I was pleased with the additional synchronization with Apple Health.

Friday column number 159. Stimulating applications

The first five days, I diligently hammered all the data into the program and fulfilled the norm. And then I just got tired of doing it, and everything returned to the previous irregular sips of water.

And today I remembered this incident and realized that I can name five or six such stories on the fly. In most cases, when you start to follow and track any element of your life, after a while it gets boring to do it. And all because the process is not brought to automatism. While we need to drive something into the application manually, sooner or later it gets boring to do it. It's a completely different matter if the same pedometer or sleep tracker automatically counts your activity. In this case, the collection of statistics does not stop, however, another problem arises – what to do with these data if they are not particularly motivating?

However, it is difficult to judge only by your own example, so I decided to ask you, dear readers. Do you use apps to track any (not necessarily physical) activity? Does it help you or not?
