Friday column number 93. Preinstalled Apps

Hello, dear readers, today I would like to share my opinion on why the pre-installed software on a phone or tablet is very ugly in relation to the user.

To tell the truth, I have long wanted to write about this phenomenon, but all my hands did not reach, and then just the time appeared, and the desire. For your convenience, I will divide all the arguments into separate sections.

Reason # 1. They take up space and cannot be removed

The first reason is pretty simple and logical. By the way, it is she who causes the greatest outrage among users. The pre-installed software often takes up a very hefty part of the internal memory, and it cannot be removed without obtaining Root access and other dances with tambourines. As a result, out of 16 GB of declared memory, you have not even 12 GB available, but about 7-8 GB.

Reason # 2. Intrusive notifications

When you just turn on the phone, all this pre-installed software immediately asks to log in, turn on notifications, synchronization, etc. If this is not done, reminders will begin to arrive. If done – notifications.

Reason number 3. No user benefit

I think everyone knows that manufacturers get paid for every pre-installed application. As a result, especially greedy brands 'shove' up to 15 programs into a smartphone with 4 GB of internal memory. They especially like to put whole 'packs' from Yandex. In theory, these actions should reduce the final cost of the smartphone, but it's not so simple.

I don’t know about the budget and middle segments, but I don’t see any savings when buying flagships with a bunch of pre-installed software. Now with price wars and a floating dollar rate, it is difficult to give a correct example, but if we take a situation two years ago, we will see that the same Galaxy S4 and HTC One cost about the same, but the first one had a bunch of pre-installed software. and in the second – just a couple of applications. It turns out that the money received from the deal with the software developers, the manufacturer puts into his pocket, and the end customer should use all this. It's not fair, is it?

One pros

However, let's not be so categorical, the preinstalled software has one significant plus. Take Dropbox for example. Almost everyone who installs this application on their devices gives users additional disk space for a period of 6 months to two years.

For non-versed users, the sets of the necessary software 'out of the box' (the same Skype, VKontakte, etc.) will be of great help.

Conclusion

However, over time, the situation with the pre-installed software is gradually changing. So, the same Samsung made most of its applications optional for installation, you can download them through Samsung Apps, but they are absent by default. In HTC, only one FitBit was left from third-party applications.

I hope that in the end we will come to the conclusion that there will be no pre-installed applications at all, or they can be easily removed. And it will be true.
