The debate about Google Pixel smartphones continues when it comes to photography. Google talks about cool new features, and it's not just words every time. Pixel smartphones regularly come out on top in camera comparisons.

The Pixel 4's main camera may not have changed, but that doesn't mean the photos haven't improved. New software and technical stuffing this time is responsible for the quality of the photos. The Pixel 4 also has a second telephoto lens, which is responsible for zoom and increased quality for portraits. So, first comparisons.

A few points to pay attention to. The Pixel 4 takes cooler photos. Cool or warm colors are personal preferences, but according to the journalist Android central, a 'cold' photo is easier to work with and can always be 'warmed up' in post-processing. The Pixel 4 also takes brighter photos, as if the HDR processing algorithm has changed. Some might say the Pixel 3's photos look more natural, but again, that's a matter of taste. And in post-processing, if you want, you can dim the brightness. This is easier to do than the other way around.

The Pixel 4 also takes sharper, more accurate shots. It renders textures better, there is less noise in the pictures.

If we talk about zoom, then everything is obvious. The Pixel 4's 2x optical zoom takes sharper, better photos than the Pixel 3's digital zoom. But the difference is mostly noticeable when looking at photos with a magnification. If you look at the photos without scaling, then both phones show a decent result.

For these photos, the basic shooting mode was used, without using Night Sight. They want to devote a separate testing to this function. But these photos are also good for comparison, since the majority will not bother anyway, but we will shoot on the principle of 'point and shoot'.

The Pixel 4 undeniably outperforms the Pixel 3 in low-light performance. The Pixel 4 also does a better job in areas where there was bright light in the photo. We can also say that the Pixel 4 is more accurate and accurate in reproducing colors. They turn out to be more intense.

The biggest difference in pictures between the two smartphones is the white balance. The Pixel 4 produces significantly colder photos. Journalist Android Central was of the opinion that Pixel 4 photos seem less realistic in low light conditions. What do you think?

Conclusion

For all the boring Google presentation, the new Pixel smartphones turned out to be extremely interesting. For once, they cannot even be called frankly scary. And the quality of the proposed test photos, of course, is pleasantly impressive. I really want to look at the testing of DxOMark, which use the same shooting locations for tests. Probably the Huawei Mate 30 Pro and P30 Pro shoot just as well. However, Google's results are no less impressive, as the company achieves quality more with algorithms, not optics.
