It is not easy to think of Google as a ridiculous outsider, but this 'title' is fully applicable in the case of the company's hardware. And more importantly, Google is hardly considered a player in the smartphone business.

I have been a user iPhone since the first model hit the market in 2007. At work I used several Android – devices and even bought a couple for everyday use, but every time I returned to 'open arms' iOS. But something about the Google hardware presented at the last presentation resonated in me, which was not the case with the recent iPhone X.

Google is trying their best, which is great

Sounds like a silly difference, but what matters to me is that the Pixel 2 costs $ 649 versus $ 699 for iPhone 8. Is that a lot – $ 50? No. But this disruptive pricing, however small, shows Google's eagerness to fight, while Apple needs more money from regular customers. By the logic of the Cupertino-based company, people like me who love small phones don't deserve the best cameras the manufacturer has to offer. Google developers disagreed with this approach and successfully added portrait mode to both the Pixel 2 XL and the standard-sized Pixel 2, using the same sensors. Thanks google!

In the world Apple, too many photos and videos in the phone's memory turn an 'apple' into a 'brick', and even if you pay for additional 'space' in iCloud storage in addition to the dull 5 GB by default, it doesn't matter you will have to make sure that the memory on the device does not overflow. My way out? Don't take a lot of pictures. In the Google world, cloud storage is cheap, and in the case of the Pixel 2, you can upload unlimited videos and photos in native quality to the Google cloud. As a company trying to compete on a par with Apple and Samsung, other device makers, Google is ready to spend additional funds on data centers, thus winning the favor of 'converts' who can later remain faithful to the company's products.

Google's efforts

Unfortunately, Google missed the opportunity to get around Apple around the bend, keeping the headphone jack. But I prefer the Pixel Buds form factor, because the loss of AirPods is a matter of time. This is not about 'Google has more ambition than Apple', but at least this is where Google is my preference.

Google's efforts

I love moving the search bar to the bottom of the display, where it's easier to reach with my thumb. I love that Google uses OLED displays and the phone doesn't cost $ 999. I like that Google is unobtrusive, but analyzes what is happening around my smartphone around the clock and shows me information even when the screen is off. I think the Pixel 2 is a beautiful device. And Pixel 2 XL with an orange button on the side and delicately sized top and bottom bezels could well be called the most beautiful phone since iPhone 5, if it were not so huge – I hate those phones.

Google's efforts

Google seems to understand me the way Apple does not.

In fact Apple is constantly getting on my nerves. I use the app Audi ble a lot, but the draconian app policy Apple prevents me from buying new books directly from the app. FaceTime does not support multi-person video calls, so I switched to Facebook Messenger for this purpose. iOS has always been famous for the best and highest quality third-party apps, and I believe that trend has continued, but more and more small new projects and experimental applications are emerging that are exclusive to Android.

Much of what makes iOS an attractive OS is not new to users Android. But for me as a user Apple who deeply trusted the company for most of his digital life, Google's iPhone alternative is far more attractive than Samsung's or LG counterparts. Google has a clearer vision than ever of what phones should be, how they should be used, and how they should integrate with Google services. I regularly use Inbox, YouTube and Docs at iPhone. Now that Google's hardware looks mature and works in conjunction with the company's services, it's time to take Android seriously, which is a new experience for me.

I can endure the broken display of my iPhone 7 for a few more months, maybe a little longer. But when it comes to updating, then I have to make a rather difficult decision. iPhone 8 seems boring and slow, iPhone X is big and expensive, but Google's $ 650 phone is almost perfect for me.

The hardest part of rejecting iPhone will be changing the color of my message bubble to green, which will be seen by friends and family. iMessage holds on tight. But the transition will mean giving up not iMessage, but the platform on which the service runs.

During all the time of communication with smartphones, I never had a desire to switch to iPhone or iOS At the same time, I really like tablets from Apple, I still use iPad Mini 2 and seriously think about what to replace it with in the near future. Most likely, it will be replaced by a newer gadget.

By and large, both platforms at the moment are not so different from each other, although they offer their own level of service. Are you an amateur iOS and can you expect the same performance of your solutions on another platform?
