HTC One (M9). Waiting for the new flagship

As you know, most likely in Barcelona at the MWC 2015 the company HTC will present its new flagship and, for sure, it will again be a device from the One series, M9. Of course, everything can still change: rumors will remain rumors, and the real announcement will be held in a different place and at a different time, as the device itself will be completely different from what it is now described. However, recent years have shown that, as a rule, most rumors about new smartphones from different companies turn out to be true. In this short note, I want to tell you what is already known about the future flagship HTC and briefly discuss its characteristics. Go.

HTC One (M9). Waiting for the new flagship

Preliminary specifications HTC One (M9) look like this:

  • Body materials: aluminum, glass
  • Operating system: Android 5.x, Sense 7.0
  • Network: GSM / EDGE, UMTS / HSDPA, LTE Cat 6
  • Screen: Super LCD 3, 5 “diagonal with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels or 5.1 '' with a resolution of 2540 × 1440 pixels
  • Processor: eight-core, 64-bit, on the platform Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, 4 cores @ 2 GHz + 4 cores 1.55 GHz
  • Graphics: Adreno 430
  • RAM: 3 GB
  • Flash memory for data storage: 32 GB
  • Memory card slot: yes, up to 128 GB
  • Interfaces: Wi-Fi dual-band, Bluetooth 4.x LE, microUSB connector for charge / sync, 3.5 mm headset
  • Main camera: 20 MP
  • Front camera 4 MP (UltraPixel)
  • Navigation: GPS (support A-GPS), Glonass
  • Optional: accelerometer, light sensor, proximity sensor, fast charge function
  • Battery: n / a
  • Dimensions: n / a
  • Weight: n / a

Of course, these characteristics are very approximate and in practice may turn out to be completely different, but let's imagine that most of them are true and we are really expecting HTC One (M9).

Immediately I suggest leaving the design theme – whether the new M9 will resemble the previous One series devices or not, it is probably not known at all, and all assumptions will be based on nothing.

An interesting moment with the screen. Rumor has it that the M9 will have a 5.2 'display with a 2560 × 1440 resolution. This option is supported by two facts – in the new smartphone the speakers with BoomSound technology will be more compact than in the previous model, so while maintaining the dimensions HTC, it can afford to install a 5.2 'display instead of a 5' screen. The second fact is that the M9 will almost certainly be equipped with the latest platform from Qualcomm, it is capable of providing excellent performance and it is logical, in this case, the desire HTC to put a maximum resolution screen in the flagship.

However, I would like to believe that those who are waiting in HTC One (M9) with a 5 '' display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels will be right. Why? Because 2014 has shown that there is absolutely no benefit from the increased resolution, while the hardware for the normal operation of a smartphone with a huge resolution requires very good, and sometimes even it does not cope. So why bother all this for the sake of a ghostly improvement in image quality for some microns?

With the camera, everything is also more or less clear. Even if it is not the 20MP module, which is now rumored, I am sure that HTC will abandon the idea of ultrapixels for the main camera and keep it, at most, for the front camera. We can only hope that the main camera will work properly and the device will not, like its predecessor, close the list of flagships in terms of photo quality (I really hope that this will not happen!).

As for the platform used, there are also no options that could be speculated about. The M9 will almost certainly have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chip inside. Regarding the internal memory and card slot – in the M8, the company has already shown that it can change and do everything 'right', so I suppose HTC One (M9) will have 32 GB of internal memory and a slot for microSD cards.

The main questions remain, of course, regarding the features of the smartphone. Will there be a built-in fingerprint scanner? What about the actively discussed Dolby 5.1 sound and how is it implemented? Perhaps HTC have invented and prepared something else new for us that can be added to a smartphone? There is only a month and a half left to wait!
