Internet roaming

Today I propose to discuss the use or vice versa non-use of the Internet in other countries.

Internet roaming

Greetings to all! MWC 2017 starts next week (or rather, even at the end of this one) and I once again wondered what to do with the mobile Internet? There are actually three options.

  1. Buy one of the tariff plans of our operators
  2. Buy a local SIM card
  3. Don't buy anything, use Maps.me and local Wi-Fi where available

I tried all three options, let me share with you my personal impressions of each of them. When buying a tariff plan from our operators, you usually pay a lot, for example, in the USA I had a tariff of 200 rubles / 40 MB from Beeline, unfortunately, local SIM cards are even more expensive there, so I used it. In Berlin, I once used a BIT from MTS, for 350 rubles it offered unlimited Internet with a speed limit of 64 KB / s after 50 MB. It was a good deal without the hassle of finding a salon.

With the local Internet, the situation is also highly dependent on the country. For example, in Taipei for 700 rubles you get 3 GB of traffic and this is enough for five to six days of travel, while in Berlin the same amount of traffic costs about 15-20 euros. However, there are always some problems with these communication salons. Either you can't find the right one at the airport, the consultants are terribly stupid, or something else. By the way, I noticed a long time ago that if you didn't buy a SIM card at the airport, then all the way your hands won't reach that.

A couple of times I've been traveling without mobile Internet and you know, it's a lot of stress when you are in an unfamiliar country and you know that if something happens you don't have a safety option with a connection, so now I try to avoid such situations.

As it always happens in gatherings, I would like to know from you, dear readers, how do you get out on vacation? Which options do you use and why?
