IOS vs Android # 16. Watching video

For two or three years I have been actively using the technique Apple, and, in general, it is pleasant and convenient for me to use it. Of course, there are some nuances, but I am rather satisfied, and there is no particular desire to return to Android (however, in fairness, using a good Android – a smartphone is no less comfortable, but in which it is even more convenient in scenarios).

Watching video

Now iOS there are no problems with video players, the same InFuse is only slightly inferior in capabilities to the popular MX Player. But there are several problems with the video at iPhone / iPad. First, when it comes to tablets, it's the aspect ratio. Most content now has a 16: 9 ratio, while iPad has a 4: 3 ratio. In fact, if I were asked which ratio is better for a tablet, it would be difficult for me to give an answer straight away, because everything directly depends on the use cases, but let's not get distracted. Due to the aspect ratio, the video does not occupy the entire screen in the tablet, and it is not very comfortable to watch it. Someone will say that you can zoom the picture, but cropping at the edges of the video sequence seems to me wrong.

The second nuance is more important to me. I watch any video with subtitles, be it movies, TV series or anime. Somehow there was a situation that I uploaded the video to the tablet, but forgot the subtitles. In the case of Android I would just download them at the airport, but on iOS this is not possible. And in terms of the settings of the MX Player 'subs' I like more than its counterparts on iOS.

The third drawback is the lack of support for memory cards. This is really a problem, because, for example, I do not often need large volumes, but in which case I can always insert a memory card into my smartphone, which is filled with the necessary files. Of course, you can take iPad or iPhone for 128 GB, but the overpayment in this case is too high, especially considering the irregular need for such an amount of memory.

Dual SIM

The first thing I usually do on a trip is buy a local SIM card with internet and insert it into my main smartphone. It's important for me to stay connected, but it's much more important to have quick access to maps that know how to plot routes. Here, of course, you can remember the wonderful Maps.me, but sometimes they are still inferior to Google Maps.

So, in the case of iPhone, my main SIM card is in my wallet pocket and is waiting for me to return home. However, because of this, I can miss all calls and messages to the main number, which is not very convenient. The more convenient in this case is the device with support for two SIM-cards. Yes, this option is not always needed, but when traveling, it will definitely come in handy.

Conclusion

I ended up using Huawei P9 Plus on the trip. Due to the fact that this is a phablet, it was possible not to take iPad mini with you, the presence of two SIM-cards made it possible to stay connected throughout the trip, and better support for subtitles, coupled with a memory card, made it possible to take more films with you and more comfortable watch them. Again, this device could have been any phablet with two SIM card slots and a good screen.

And this time I decided not to take the WoodFrame stand with me, they say, think, I'll hold the phone itself, and I regretted it very much, because it's one thing to hold the device in my hand for a couple of hours, and quite another thing is a 12-hour flight.
