Lenovo Moto Fest 2016, Moscow

A small report on the event, photos and impressions.

Last Saturday morning started pretty early for me, there were a couple of things to do. It turned out to be free quickly and I came to Gorky Park, to the festival Lenovo. A dozen tents along the Moscow embankment were still closed, despite the announced start of events at 11 am. The few people who managed to catch up and people who were just walking in the park watched the setting up of the equipment on the stage and the trial runs of the musicians of one of the groups participating in the festival, someone studied the menu of the fast food trailers parked nearby, someone enjoyed the coolness in the shade on the benches, the organizers prepared the sites for the opening and gave final instructions to the personnel at the sites.

Looking ahead, we were lucky with the weather that day, the sun was shining, there was no rain in the plans, so a lot of people eventually came.

The festival was opened by a dance warm-up, which was followed by a lesson-training on the non-contact practice of hand-to-hand fighting techniques. At the end of the physical culture part of the event, the tents were finally opened, where the most interesting part of the festival was concentrated. At the entrance to the festival from the side of the Crimean bridge, the first guests were greeted by the Moto Quest tent, where they could sign up for the Guinness Book record for the most massive simultaneous jump, charge the device and receive a flag with quest tasks, upon completion of which the participants were awarded a souvenir from the organizers.

Tasks were scattered across the rest of the tents, to complete them it was necessary to find the appropriate gadgets / tips and enter the answer in the corresponding column on the flag. In principle, not bad entertainment for an active category of guests, many really wanted to get a coveted bag with symbols. Still, not everyone decided to participate in this quest. Many, like me, were interested in the interactive part of the festival, within which they had the opportunity to turn gadgets in their hands, try them in work, compare and form an opinion about the presented products.

The next small tent was dedicated to solutions for gamers, four computers Lenovo were installed here, it was possible to evaluate the performance and quality of video in games, as well as the sound in branded headphones. Here it was simply not crowded with schoolchildren who wanted to personally touch a new gaming experience. In practically the same size tent from Qualcomm, guests were told about the features of devices based on the company's processors, the emphasis was on performance and camera operation. Those who listened attentively to the information and completed simple tasks in the style of 'take a picture and post it with a tag in Instagram' received a corporate badge. It is for this reason that an impressive crowd also constantly crowded in an already small space, as a result, it was not immediately possible to look at the presented gadgets, among which there were devices Lenovo, including Moto X Force.

The next inflatable pavilion was a kind of 'showroom', where smartwatches, smartphones, tablets, laptops and system units were exhibited for review. It is always useful to assess the real dimensions of the devices and try them on to fit your hand. Here everyone could get detailed information about each gadget and place an order / pre-order for the device they like. As a bonus, ordering was awarded with a branded T-shirt of the festival. For all the time spent getting to know the device, several people, apparently, ordered something: they talked for a long time with consultants at the counter and left with a branded bag. Perhaps, I spent the most time here, it was crowded, but spacious, there was an opportunity at least to move from device to device.

I remember tablets from the Yoga line, the top solution has a built-in projector with the ability to project images up to 70 inches diagonally. In daylight, of course, it was not possible to check this parameter, it would be interesting. The cost of such a solution approaches 50,000, this is a flagship device, perhaps that is why they were not so actively interested in it. Nearby was a rather curious Yoga 900S laptop, thin and light, capable of working in different modes, incl. and as a tablet, it is also one of the company's flagships.

Many were actively considering phablets Lenovo, which were knocked out of the monochrome color scheme of other models due to the bright colors of the back panel. I saw several users of these devices in the crowd, it is quite possible that someone came to the festival in order to look for an update for their phablet. Personally, I really liked the look of the Moto 360 watch, before that I had not had to personally communicate with it. Variants with different straps were presented, in the next pavilion it was possible to try on a smaller model – 360S.

Perhaps the main interest for me was the opportunity to see lively Moto Z, which caused a stir in the media space, an unusual and controversial flagship, about which you could already form your opinion within the materials on the site. And she did not keep herself waiting long. In the next tent, in addition to charging points for devices and chairs for those who are tired, X Play devices, the already mentioned watches, and Moto Z with accessories already familiar to AMR readers were exhibited.

In principle, the device confirmed all my expectations. A very thin, pleasant in hand, decent screen, a very dirty back, and, of course, the design of the white version, which you just want to hide under the film. Therefore, if I recommend the device to someone, then from an aesthetic point of view, the black version is closer to me. Unusual impressions of the device, and purely outwardly, inside everything practically does not differ from Moto X Force, with the exception of additional software for managing modules, which, I think, we will tell about in one of the materials.

In terms of dimensions, the Z did not seem to be a 'shovel'; apparently, it got used to SGN4. It will slide in your hands, it is indisputable, you will have to adapt to use it. As such, I did not see any scratches on the devices, but no wonder, they are unlikely to have already experienced the proximity to keys and coins.

Almost all known variations were presented from the modules, including a speaker from JBL, a battery from Incipio and a video projector. Texture panels for some reason were not brought, and the Hasselblad module has just been officially presented at IFA. It was not possible to assess the sound and quality of the projected video, it was noisy and sunny, in this moment, of course, it was possible to come up with something.

Subjectively, Moto Z caused more positive emotions. The only point I doubt is strength. Apparently, that's why Z Force immediately attracted my attention more, personal acquaintance with which is also being postponed. Otherwise, everything looks pretty good, let's see how this new design language develops. Interestingly, the novelty aroused a certain curiosity among people, but for some reason not everyone dared to approach, they preferred to be content with a demonstration from the outside. Perhaps, it seemed, or maybe they did not understand what kind of animal this is.

In principle, this was the end of the interactive part of the festival and the performances of musical groups began. Someone continued to get acquainted with the gadgets, the majority pulled themselves up to the stage in anticipation of the headliners' performance, those who had seen enough went on for a walk in the park.

According to the impressions, the organizers have invested more in the music program than in the interactive part of the festival. You can understand them, not everyone is interested in gadgets, but music unites people in a way. To be fair, the list of artists looked decent, Van Dyck alone is worth something. His presence emphasized a certain symbolism, because it was he who wrote tunes for Moto smartphones 20 years ago. For those who were not familiar with the products Lenovo, the festival was undoubtedly a great way to see the variety of offerings, and the scale of the festival itself was impressive. Still, I would like to see a greater emphasis on devices and user experience, otherwise there are no big complaints about the organization. It turned out to be an eventful hot and sunny day, which is not a way to mark the end of summer.
