Modern smartphones – where does progress end?

Screens with a resolution of 2k (and 4K for Sony for video and photo modes), 20-megapixel main and 13-megapixel front camera modules, eight-core processors with 3 and 4 gigabytes of RAM, and so on, and so on. The smartphone as a personal device continues to evolve in breadth, increasing numerical indicators, but progressing poorly in terms of quality. The question arises – how long?

Modern smartphones - where does progress end?

A certain dead end has already come, obviously, with the resolution of screens, many manufacturers do not risk setting the resolution to 2k, and even 4k in a new smartphone from Sony is nothing more than a publicity stunt, in fact the device works at a lower resolution. Everything is clear here, the human eye is not the same as the eagle's eye of the Indian leader, so sooner or later he ceases to distinguish the number of dots per inch of the screen. With cameras, the situation is a little different, there is also stagnation, but the reason is different – it is simply impossible to accommodate complex optics and a physically large sensor in a compact smartphone body, as a result of the last two years the quality of mobile photography has hardly improved noticeably. With batteries, it is more and more interesting – it turns out that manufacturers in this case always make a difficult compromise between compactness, low weight of the device and good battery life. And while the assertion that “high battery capacity does not equal long battery life” has begun to be heard from companies more and more often, in fact, it is talking about an extra 5-10 percent of capacity. Otherwise, it loses its value. Put a 6000 mAh battery instead of 3000 in some modern flagship, and, lo and behold, it will work on one charge for almost twice as long.

Modern smartphones - where does progress end?

There are devices from Apple, and the company is very careful and metered using the quantitative increase in parameters: there are still only two cores for processors, HD and FHD screens and 1 or 2 gigabytes of RAM, and a 12-megapixel camera – what have been waiting for several years. And this works in the case of Apple. But smartphone manufacturers on Android do not spare themselves or users and drive quantitative indicators. And I wrote all this for this – what do you think, dear readers, where does progress end in each of the components of a modern smartphone on Android? 25 megapixel camera, 4k resolution and 16 cores?
