Hi, as promised, this week I'm talking about the latest Moto Mods, including the recently announced updates.
JBL SoundBoost 2
This module turns your smartphone into a portable speaker with good sound quality. SoundBoost 2 can last up to ten hours on a single charge. The second generation received smoother edges, a special spray-resistant coating and slightly improved sound. In addition, JBL have added their own proprietary equalizer app to fine tune the sound.
I love SoundBoost since last year. It perfectly replaces a portable speaker, does not require a wireless connection and has a convenient built-in stand.
Moto Style Shell
With this module, you can easily diversify the look of your smartphone. At the same time, unlike traditional cases, Moto Style practically does not increase the size of the device and looks much more successful than third-party accessories. In addition to various colors, different body materials are also available, here you have both textured plastic and wooden panels.
Hasselblad True Zoom
I don’t know how often you need x10 optical zoom, but in my work you need it all the time, especially at presentations. Here you are sitting on the 15th row, but you need to carefully photograph each slide, and ideally also click the speaker with a new product. And then upload all this to social networks, because the new product was just presented. Hasselblad's module solves this problem. He got to me just the other day, I will use it for a couple of weeks and write off my impressions.
Moto InstaShare Projector
A portable projector, at first glance, seems like a niche solution, but you get used to it very quickly. I really liked it on trips. For example, you have uploaded several films to your smartphone and want to watch them at the hotel. You can, of course, tinker with an HDMI cable and an adapter, but not all hotels have a TV of a decent size or well located.
A friend has such a module and uses it to broadcast cartoons to his little daughter. He says that the child is just delighted.
The projector is easy to set up: connect it to your smartphone, turn it on and place it on a flat surface. If the picture is blurry, you can adjust it with the wheel on the right, the projection proportions are automatically adjusted.
The resolution of the projector is only 480p, but I didn't notice much discomfort when using it, after all, we have a portable solution. Speaking of size. At a distance of two meters, the module can already provide a picture of 50 inches (compared with your TV).
Moto TurboPower Pack 3490 mAh
The module with an additional battery has been significantly updated. Its capacity was increased from 2220 mAh to 3490 mAh, the back cover was rubberized with a textured pattern, and also an indicator light and a Type C port for charging were added. If earlier the module could only be charged together with a smartphone, now there is no such binding. Moreover, TurboPower supports fast charging: it can quickly charge itself and quickly charge a smartphone, plus, when the module is connected to a Moto branded charger along with a smartphone, they both will be charged at the same time.
Moto GamePad MOD
A brand new game module that interested me a lot. The fact is that some toys (for example, races or fighting games) are not very convenient to play on the touch screen, and there are not so many third-party solutions. And here is a proprietary module that turns your smartphone into a full-fledged portable console.
An interesting fact about GameMod: it supports the standard Google API for joysticks, so if the toy knows how to work with them, it will work with this module as well. Big developers like Gameloft or EA always bother with joystick support.
Moto 360 MOD
Module for 360-degree shooting. Its main charm is that, unlike separate cameras, your pictures will be immediately saved in the smartphone, while in those formats that are supported by popular social networks. It's also a convenient way to stream 360-degree live streams directly from your smartphone.
Moto Style Shell with wireless charging
Rear panel variation with wireless charging support. Unlike the standard Shell, this module is slightly thicker, but it allows the smartphone to be recharged from any Qi charge.
Conclusion
I understand that modules are a niche topic, but it is always interesting to see what is so interesting and unusual that a manufacturer can offer in 2017, when everyone is already fed up with technology, and smartphones have long become similar to each other.
I love that Moto's module initiative continues and that the company maintains backward compatibility: any module can be plugged into both the first and second generation Moto Z.
We all have different use cases, for example, I would definitely use Hasselblad True Zoom for work, and in a hotel I would love to listen to music through JBL SoundBoost 2, but I suppose you may have other preferences. I suggest unsubscribing in the comments which of the modules seems to you the most relevant and why.
