The company Huawei has released the new Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro devices, and besides them, also the Porsche Design version, which is a niche and is intended to attract attention as a fashion solution rather than generate sales. As for the already familiar 'pair' positioning of the main and Pro versions, it would be logical to expect a noticeably larger screen size and / or improved performance for a device that costs 100 euros more. Here we see that the screens differ from each other by only 0.1 inches, and we do not see a radical superiority in performance in the Pro version. Let's try to figure out whether it makes sense to overpay for it.
Overall, the regular Huawei Mate 10 offers the best value for money. Among the latter – not only the screen, but also a headphone jack, and the possibility of expanding memory.
The Mate 10 Pro also has something to please us – a narrower body that is more comfortable in the hand, protection from water, and for some it is more pleasant to see the fingerprint scanner from the back (in the Mate 10 it is located too low, and this is inconvenient). More RAM and more built-in memory is good too, but actually, for the extra € 100 added to the price, it's quite expected.
What about the screen? The regular Mate 10 has a bigger and clearer screen. And when you watch 16: 9 video, the difference is even more noticeable.
On the other hand, the screen AMOLED in the Mate 10 Pro offers better contrast and better color rendering (112% NTSC color gamut vs. 96%). Nevertheless, both screens support HDR10, so we will refrain from the final verdict on this parameter, this will require a more detailed comparison.
Let's look at the advantages of each of the devices:
Huawei Mate 10 | Huawei Mate 10 Pro |
– Price 700 euros versus 800 euros for the Pro version – Bigger screen – Best ratio of screen area to total area – The best characteristics for any media content – microSD card slot – 3.5mm audio jack – Front fingerprint scanner – Shorter apparatus |
– AMOLED – screen – 128 GB of internal memory – 6 GB of RAM – Rear fingerprint scanner – Narrower and thinner apparatus – IP67 protection |
Finally, let's take a look at Huawei Mate 10 Porsche Design. Much more expensive than the aforementioned devices, which is mainly due to the design, which was developed by the famous fashion house. But the Porsche Design lettering on the front does not evoke any warm feelings. Why is it better than a logo, for example, of an operator? The vertical stripe at the back may be nice, but is that a reason to double the price?
The rich bundle pleases me, but two charges are probably too much. One is for the European plug and the other for the British one. Great for travelers, you might say. But what's wrong with using an adapter? So it would be better to put the same chargers – for home and office. Well, or a charger in the car.
In any case, the extra memory is good, the VIP card is as cool as it is useless, but to match its positioning and price, the device has to offer something really special.
What do you think, dear readers? Is there something about the Mate 10 Pro that the regular Mate 10 doesn't have and you couldn't do without? Also – would you purchase the Porsche Design version if you had the right amount?
