One of the best April Fool's jokes this year belongs to Google. This is the 'reality helmet' of Cardboard Plastic.

The video seemed to me not only funny, but also topical. Every year there will be more and more people wearing 'smart' glasses and 'virtual' helmets, and from the outside they look really somewhat controversial. However, not so long ago the same was said about the owners of phablets like Galaxy Note, and before that – about users Bluetooth of headsets.

Much more interesting is another thing – the event that users look at through the lenses of fancy gadgets, for many people really acquire additional value. Put a plastic box with an interface drawn with a marker on the head of such a person, show a long-familiar landscape, and he will completely sincerely begin to admire it. It will immediately turn out that the colors through the plastic window are bright and saturated as never before, and the sound simply amazes with its surround sound. The only question is, what prevents you from enjoying the surrounding landscape without additional gadgets? And what will the owner of a 'smart' helmet prefer to do in ten years – to go outside and watch the real sunset or to put the helmet on his head and play his virtual video?

Unfortunately, the next icon redesign was not an April Fool's joke. But this was to be expected, the constant redesign of its own services is a favorite pastime of the search giant, and usually we are talking at best about replacing sewn with soap. So icons are the least of all possible evils.

To be honest, I liked the old icons a lot more, but it's all a matter of taste.

Another modern trend is to constantly photograph everything and everyone, not excluding yourself. Self-portraits with the help of film cameras, timers and mirrors gave way to 'selfies' with outstretched arms, and then to selfie sticks. The next step is miniature drones that will follow their owner and photograph him from different angles.

Moreover, such devices are already available today. One example is the ROAM-e drone. He knows how to keep at a distance of three meters from the user, and fly away from him at a distance of 25 meters, and in addition to ordinary pictures, he is also trained in panoramic (360 degrees). Flight time is 20 minutes, battery charging time is 2 hours. The device costs $ 350.

What is the point for ordinary buyers to worry about the sale of this or that smartphone? No matter how many people buy the same device as you, its qualities will not change for the better or for the worse. The eternal debate about ideal mobile operating systems and the popularity of manufacturers will certainly not give the participants anything.

LG G5 is one of those devices, for the fate of which I sincerely worry. Even though I did not consider it as a purchase from the very beginning. It's not about the smartphone itself – it's about the idea behind it. In LG they tried to prove that a flagship does not have to be a boring plastic block, and many people are following the results of this experiment with interest. If it works out, there will be more people willing to take a chance and show the world something interesting.

The preliminary sales results are not bad, according to The Korea Herald, about 15,000 smartphones LG G5 were sold in the first day. For comparison, the indicators LG G4 were three times less – only 5,000 devices were sold in the first day.

Apparently, this turned out to be a pleasant surprise for the company itself, in any case, the production lines were recently switched to round-the-clock operation. Analysts believe that it will be possible to sell about 10 million copies of the flagship in a year, which is quite decent.

Representatives of the company once again announced that they are completely confident in the prospects of modular phones and will do their best to develop this direction further. Although we have heard all this more than once before, it is nice that LG do not refuse their words. At least for the time being.

The increased attention from the public is not always a plus. Meticulous users bring out those little things that the company would rather not advertise.

One YouTube user JerryRigEverything recently discovered that the body LG of the G5 isn't exactly metal. The base is indeed made of aluminum, but the top layer looks more like plastic. The opening provoked a number of angry comments on profile resources, many owners of LG G5 immediately became disillusioned with their smartphones and rushed to accuse the company of dastardly deception. Although something tells me that in fact, most of the authors of such comments not only did not buy a smartphone, but did not even hold it in their hands. However, this is absolutely normal practice for the Internet.

To be honest, it baffles me. If you bought a smartphone and were completely satisfied with it, then what do you care about the chemical composition of its cover? This is not a piece of jewelry that has lost its value at times due to impurities in the noble metal.

LG have already officially announced that there is no deception here. The body is really aluminum (alloy LM201b), the top layer is just a primer, which can be compared to the paint on the body of a car. This solution has a number of advantages from both a technical and a design point of view, and in no way damages the interests of users.

In conclusion, representatives of the company ask themselves the question, since when did blind copying of other people's technologies began to be considered the only correct method of doing business, and why any step aside is now considered a manifestation of weakness and even deception.

A question in a million, but we can hardly wait for an answer.

Meanwhile, another patent for modular watch straps was lit up on the network, this time from Apple. The meaning is exactly the same as before – the modules will help equip the watch with additional sensors, batteries and more.

How much all this will help Apple Watch is hard to say. On the one hand, these watches now have a solid market share. On the other hand, for the first time, a watch from Apple would be bought even if it was an ordinary plastic bracelet without any electronic filling at all. And the question is rather whether the company will be able to achieve something similar with the next generation of smartwatches.

I personally don't really believe in the future of smartwatches as expensive accessories. If this is an accessory, it is more likely an accessory for a smartphone, like Bluetooth – a headset or something similar. And the fact that many of these watches can work on their own does not change the situation.

The main advantage of such devices is the support of notifications; they will be bought for business rather than beauty. This means that the price / quality ratio comes to the fore here … or just the price. After all, the functions of all models are approximately at the same level, and there are literally a couple of really useful ones. And even the most beautiful strap will change little here.
