Non-obvious but useful tricks iOS # 3

The first two releases of useful chips iOS (links: first and second) you liked and useful, so I decided to look for unobvious system functions for one more material, I think this time the final one, at least until the new one is released major update.

Let's go!

Working with passwords

In update iOS 12 Apple, we did a good job with the part of the system that is responsible for storing passwords. I don't know how safe they are stored there, but working with all this is convenient and pleasant.

Notification about the same passwords. You probably know that using the same password on different sites is unsafe. If not, now you know. So iOS now prompts if there are duplicates somewhere. There is a chip along the way: Settings – Passwords and accounts – Passwords for sites and software. An icon with an exclamation mark is displayed next to non-original passwords. If you open the password card, it will be displayed on how many resources it is used on.

In addition, the system will warn you if you enter a non-original password when registering on a new resource. So far, in a recommendatory order.

Send passwords via AirDrop. If there is a need to send the password to another iOS device (not yours, since passwords are automatically synchronized between devices on the same Apple ID), then you can do it from there. Tap on any field and choose AirDrop.

Automatic password generation. For a long time, for some reason I did not understand that automatic password generation is an insanely convenient thing. Probably because it seemed to me that passwords should always be remembered, and remembering the arbitrary order of characters is not an easy task. Thanks to the updated algorithm for creating auto passwords, I finally realized (I'm a brake, yes) that you don't need to remember them, since they will be saved in the iCloud account and will be automatically substituted on all your Apple gadgets. And when you need to enter it outside the apple ecosystem, you can always look in the list of passwords or ask Siri (I wrote about this in the last issue of chips iOS). So, if you, like me, were stupid all this time, then start using.

When your gadget prompts you to create a secure password when registering on the site or in the application, do not refuse. It's comfortable.

Connecting to a Wi-Fi network via a QR code. This feature is not only a feature of iOS, but works great on Apple – gadgets. It will be useful at home or in the office to provide guests with access to the wireless network or not to remember a complex password yourself.

So, go to the free resource https://qifi.org and generate a QR code to connect to your network. Here you need to enter the name of the hotspot (SSID), the type of encryption (you can see it in the settings of the router), the password, mark if the point is hidden, and click on the “Generate!” Button. We print the resulting QR code on paper and hang it in a conspicuous place.

Now, when someone asks how to connect to Wi-Fi, offer to scan that QR code. In iOS this is done using the standard camera app.

“Go to sleep” in “Do not disturb” mode

Just imagine such a completely life situation. Eyes droop, you cover yourself with a warm blanket and are ready to plunge into the kingdom of Morpheus, but decide to check the alarm clock on your iPhone. The screen lights up and you see some super interesting notifications and decide they can't stand it until morning. While you are “sticking” to your smartphone, it may take more than a dozen minutes, or even sleep will take off like a hand, which will negatively affect your morning state. To prevent this from happening, Apple came up with a switch “Go to sleep”, which is located along the path: Settings – Do not disturb.

When this toggle switch is on, in the “Do not disturb” mode, even if you activate the display, you will not see new notifications on the lock screen, and the screen itself will be dimmed. This means that there will be nothing to distract from the planned sleep. If you still need to check the notifications, then make the usual gesture from the bottom up – and they will appear.

SMS sending report

This trick was suggested to me in the comments to the last release, for which a special thank you, since I did not even know about it.

As you know, in the message settings on iOS you cannot specify that you receive a delivery report if the message is sent by standard “SMS”, and not via iMessage. But the solution is very simple – by substituting an exclamation mark at the beginning of the message.

Delete the last digit in the calculator

Are you using a standard calculator iOS, but don't know how to delete an extra digit entered by mistake? Here's a really non-obvious solution: just swipe from right to left on the entered number. May all accountants be happy!

Default reading mode

Reading Mode is a great feature for reading long reads, including mobile gadget reviews. But few people know that you can activate its automatic activation for a specific site or for all sites in general. To do this, make a long tap on the desired pictogram.

Reminders when getting in or out of the car

Cool hidden function iOS, useful to every motorist, who iPhone automatically connects via Bluetooth to the car multimedia system or uses Apple CarPlay.

If you need to create a reminder that should be triggered either when getting into or out of the car, then use the standard Reminders application and special geo settings.

It is important to note that the function does not work with all car Bluetooth devices, if the connection is not made using CarPlay (the list of compatible ones could not be found on the website Apple).

Conclusion

In the final issue, we reviewed a portion of useful functions iOS hidden in the system settings. Share your findings in the comments and check out previous issues if you missed them!
