OS problems Android and how to solve them

Based on materials from android-softwares.com

Let's say we are all big OS fans Android and can't even think about switching to another operating system. Nevertheless, even in this case, we cannot argue with the fact that it cannot be called perfect Android, and users from time to time have to face a number of typical problems. Some of them are associated with specific devices, some are due to the peculiarities of the OS itself. We'll talk about common problems users have to deal with Android, as well as possible solutions.

Please note that some of the steps in the solutions below may differ from device to device.

1. Battery problems

One of the most common problems regardless of device is the rate at which battery power is consumed. In some cases, the battery stops working as well as before, but most of the complaints from users are due to the fact that the battery starts to discharge quickly and unexpectedly.

Possible Solution

When it comes to the rapid discharge of the battery, you can see which applications are using it more by going to the Battery section in the Settings menu. If you see an app using an unusually high amount of battery power, the best thing to do is uninstall it. If this cannot be done, you can hope that the problem will be fixed with the update. Make sure you have the latest version of this app.

If your device's battery doesn't perform as well as it did a year or even six months ago, when it was new, don't worry. However, you can make it last longer by performing the simplest steps – lowering the display brightness, adjusting the power saving mode optimally, or using special applications to optimize the power consumption of your device.

2. Performance issues

Device users on Android occasionally notice an increased number of lags and freezes. In more severe cases, devices start to randomly reboot or overheat to an uncomfortable temperature, even without being loaded with tasks that require intensive processor work.

Possible Solution

This is where application managers like Greenify can come to the rescue. After downloading it, you will see a list of applications that are active when the device is turned on, you can change the settings for these applications, and thus they will stop slowing down.

A malicious application can also be the cause of performance problems. Boot your device into Safe Mode (how to do this differs depending on the device) and see if the problem persists. If not, the application is really to blame, and then there are two ways to solve it. The first is to remove the last installed applications. The second is to reset your device to factory settings – this is of course an edge case as you will lose all your information. So, when you are going to reset the device, check if you have saved all the necessary files.

3. Connection problems

When purchasing a new device, you may suddenly encounter Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection problems. There are a number of device-specific problems, but general solutions are described below – the ones worth trying first.

Possible Solution

Wi-Fi problems

  • Turn off your device and router for at least 10 seconds, then turn on and try to connect again.
  • Go to Settings – Power Saving and make sure this option is disabled.
  • Use Wi-Fi Analyzer and check how congested your channel is, look for the best option.
  • 'Forget' the connection, to do this go to Settings – Wi-Fi, long tap on the desired network and select 'Forget'. Then connect again.
  • Check if your router is out of date.
  • Check the software on the device itself, make sure it is not out of date.
  • Go to Wi-Fi – Settings – Advanced and check if access is allowed to the MAC address of your device in the MAC filter of the router.

Problems Bluetooth

  • If they are related to the connection to the machine, check the manufacturer's instructions and update the connection
  • Check if you missed a necessary step in the connection process
  • Go to Settings – Bluetooth, check if something needs charging
  • Going to Settings – Bluetooth, delete all previous settings for connecting devices and carry out 'pairing' from scratch.
  • If there is a problem with multiple device connections, only a future update can fix it.

4. Problems with aggressive energy saving

Each Android smartphone has one or another power saving mode, and if your device has Android 6.0 Marshmallow or higher on board, it also has a Doze mode. This is very useful when you need to squeeze the most out of your battery, but at the same time, you may have the problem of missing notifications.

Possible Solution

If you encounter this and notifications from applications such as Gmail, Whatsapp, Facebook arrive with a delay or do not arrive at all, you should move these applications in the Battery section to the non-optimized list. On some devices, this will be the Settings menu – Battery settings (three vertical dots) – Battery optimization, open 'All applications' in the drop-down menu, go to the desired application and tap 'Do not optimize'. Unless the list expands too much, you won't see any noticeable impact on battery life.

5. Problems with the Google Play Store

Almost any Android smartphone outside of China has the Google Play Store preinstalled, and that's where we get the apps we need. However, there are situations in which the Google Play Store stops working as expected.

Possible Solution

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to the problem with the Google Play Store. But you should first of all make sure that it is your device, and not Google services. After that, several steps are possible: forcibly closing the application, clearing the Play Store cache, checking which applications or services, being disabled, affected the operation of the application store, and much more. Finally, you can try to revert the Google Play Store to an older version (Settings – Applications – Google Play Store – Uninstall updates), and then update the application again.
