I want to share one very unusual and exciting game that tells about all the complexities of managing the kingdom.
I don't know about you, but I practically stopped playing on my mobile phone. Games are very active in spending the most valuable percent of the battery charge, and it is inconvenient to carry an external battery with you all the time. But sometimes there are games that catch my attention. Often this is something original and unusual, and not just another Angry Birds. So, for example, I came across a very exciting Lifeline quest with original mechanics and Evoland, which tells about the evolution of computer games. And just recently I discovered an equally curious and unusual game – Reigns.
Gameplay
The game Reigns tells about the difficult life of the ruler of the kingdom, but it has no plot as such, here the story is created by the player himself. The main feature of the game in the gameplay is that the whole process consists of cards with characters who come to the king with a question or proposal, and you (the ruler) can choose one of two answers by swiping the card to the left or to the right. Moreover, these are not necessarily monosyllabic 'yes' and 'no'.
The kingdom is supported by four elephants: church, people, military power and money. You need to be very careful about your answers, because the actions of the ruler directly affect the scale of each of the four indicators of statehood. For example, a priest may propose to raise the tax for believers and take you as a share. This will add to the treasury, but shake your authority among the people. Another example: you can organize a real Crusade and gradually exterminate all the infidels. At the same time, the entire population will begin to slowly die out, so it is necessary to improve the living standards of people in every possible way so that there is someone to govern. At the same time, there is no such thing as a right or wrong answer in the game, here you need to act according to the circumstances.
The main thing is that the ruler needs to keep all indicators in balance. The destruction of the institution of the church, the extinction of the population, the lack of weapons and the depletion of capital must not be allowed. But you also need to make sure that the priests do not decide to send the king to torture due to an excess of power. Overpopulation can lead to complete anarchy, and the military can also overthrow you from the throne. At the maximum treasury scale, a large-scale feast will begin in the kingdom, in which the king will die from overeating. That is, if one of the indicators reaches zero, you will die, if you let any indicator rise above the norm, you will die. Any decision can lead to death. However, after the death, the game does not end, only the next ruler dies, and then a new king sits on the throne.
Features:
But Reigns is not limited to maintaining a balance between church, people, military and treasury. The game also has to visit dangerous dungeons, uncover conspiracies against the king, face the curse of the devil, after which the first one to whom you answer 'yes' will die and much, much more. Along the way, you can get achievements (achievements) for completing tasks. They often have very ambiguous wording, and sometimes it is not clear what the game requires of you. For example, one of the achievements is to 'go see a dove'. What dove? What date? Unclear. This can only be found out by the empirical 'hitting' method.
Reigns is not devoid of humor, so, for example, you can go to save the princess from the clutches of the dragon, which for some reason insolently refuses to fight and gives the hostage just like that. Also, having agreed with the witch, you can arrange a date with the dove, which usually brings messages (necessary for the task described above). You can still eat blue mushrooms and then fantastic creatures will appear. And the whole gameplay consists of such funny situations.
Despite the apparent simplicity of the gameplay, Reigns is a deep, detailed and unusual game. She is very unpredictable, it would seem, by making the obvious right decision, you can lead the whole kingdom to chaos. The developers have created excellent sound and graphic accompaniment, added humor, interesting, original characters and an exciting gameplay. Reigns does not require you to spend a lot of time with it, you can refer to it when you have a free minute, although it can captivate for a long time.
Let's summarize
In fact, it's very hard to talk about this kind of game, Reigns just needs to be tried. However, one caveat arises here – the game in the Play Store costs 189 rubles, which may seem too high a fee, but it can also be found on Steam for PC and Mac at a price of 79 rubles. Although, as it seems to me, it is much more suitable for mobile devices. The game is fully translated into Russian, there are flaws, but overall everything is fine.
I highly recommend Reigns. Share your achievements in the comments and tell us about other unusual games you've encountered this summer. By the way, I managed to achieve a record of 59 years of rule.
