Dear readers, this time the results were much delayed, but at last I am in a hurry to please our winner. And at the same time, let's see what other competitors wrote, let me remind you that it was about the importance of design and materials of the case.
For example, Ilya Subbotin is clearly on the side of practicality:
The balance between image and practicality is such a difficult thing. At one time I was very impressed by metal in HTC HD2, but in winter it was freezing, poor fellow. Now I began to adhere to the position of “indestructibility” – with a certain frequency, devices fall out of hand. However, thanks to Samsung's cunning sorcery, the current device is not affected in any way. The advantage of plastic, albeit a premium one, is that it is not a pity to cover the material with a cover or case. The plus of aluminum is the wow effect.
Another participant of the competition, Andrey, also supports this point of view:
I prefer practicality, wear resistance, resistance to deformation. Unfortunately, aluminum does not fall under any of the criteria important to me. If the metal is stainless. steel or titanium, if we consider aluminum or plastic – I prefer plastic. The glass on the back is also not acceptable, as it is an additional weak point. A smartphone with a stainless steel frame and a removable soft-touch or leather-like plastic back would be optimal for me. Design is also important, but fades into second place, if there is a choice – I would prefer practicality and durability than a beautiful trick of which there is a place in the sideboard under the glass with a sign 'do not touch with your hands!'.
In general, our contestants are surprisingly unanimous about practicality:
I know that no one likes for some reason, but I love the soft-touch in my nexus. Because of it, it looks absolutely minimalistic and in the hands it feels somehow very logical, or something.
And about aluminum cases – I hate them. I had (and have, but do not use) Acer A501 with an almost completely aluminum back cover. She just scratched herself into the trash. And the feeling of sliding a finger over such aluminum is a dubious pleasure – a 'torn' surface texture and a weak version of goosebumps from grinding glass.
And about plastic in Samsung – I support with all my heart. I do not accept their design and much else, but the practicality of the cases is amazing.
And the winner is the reader with the nickname dumpling, here is his comment:
Design is important, no, I would even say design is damn
important for the device. What do we hold in our hands more often than our smartphone? (refrain from vulgarity). As I once answered someone on MR, taking out a smartphone from my pocket, I want to experience emotions, Positive emotions.
I have had a lot of smartphones with an ordinary design: a rectangle of black / gray plastic with technological holes. And while they were functional and very practical, they did not evoke emotions at all. Therefore, when iPhone 4 appeared it was like a breath of fresh air – unusual, glassy, comfortable, evoking emotions. There were definitely no indifferent people. But as time and my crooked hands have shown, glass is probably not the best material for covering a large area of a smart. Every time he slipped out of his hands, his heart froze for a split second and then accelerated at a frantic pace. Although, I must say, it was quite durable and withstood many falls with the exception of one – falling from the back pocket into the toilet.
Then there was a working sim card and a bunch of two-sim flags for
which the soul did not lie, there was even a 457th – a shovel at that time. Everyone looked like an idiot. Metal body, I'll never forget, slippery like a snake. At the expense of
the size and slippery body, the screen lived for 5 months, after which it was written off for scrap.
And finally, no, FINALLY, the flagships of the A-brands began to install 2 SIM cards! Whoever says what, but the emotions that the flagship of the A-brand gives are much stronger than any of the phones of group B. Maybe, of course, I am one of those people who drive an empty BMW with a stirrer and oars and are proud that they are on behe (although no-no-no, I'm not like that …), but the very understanding that you have a flagship already gives you two points to the pleasure of owning it. And who would not say what, but the S5 is a beautiful device. Especially in blue – it stands out from the crowd of monotonous white and black smartphones. And the plastic from which the cover is made is very pleasant to the touch and does not allow the smartphone to slide even in wet hands. This is important for its size, because it cannot be squeezed in the palm of your hand like a small (up to 6) iPhone. After the metal but so slippery 457, this is extremely convenient and important. Well, moisture protection. I don’t use it in the shower, I don’t take pictures of fish in the aquarium, but I’m calm when I throw it in the reach of a small child and don’t worry that he will be dragged along with his toys to the bathroom for a swim. The last time it happened, I just wiped it off with a napkin. And this is another pair of glasses to those of the past, from the pleasure of possession.
I congratulate our winner and look forward to sending him a letter to my mail. I ask the rest of the readers not to get upset, the next contest will start very soon!
