I want to share four games that I liked for their unusual gameplay or controls.
The gaming industry has ceased to be a platform for experiments, companies are afraid to invest effort and money in projects that may not take off. They can be understood. But indie developers and small companies come to our aid. I like games with unusual gameplay, I am ready to forgive the lack of a plot, beautiful graphics, the main thing is that the game gives a new experience.
I would like to share with readers a selection of games with unusual gameplay that I have met recently.
Fast like a fox
At first glance, this game seemed to me like a classic runner, but later I discovered a way to control 'Touch'. In this mode, the character will run when tapping on the body of the device, the speed of movement depends on the intensity of the touches. Madly knocking on the phone, you will not be able to collect all the bonuses on the level, at some moments you need to slow down, and at others – jump up by tapping the screen.
Unusual controls aside, this is a simple and ill-conceived platformer. The main goal of the game is to reach the end, collecting crystals along the way. The developers have not even figured out why the player needs level bonuses, they are used only to compete with friends in the Play Games rating.
Still, I advise you to try to go through a couple of levels in Fast like a Fox, this is something unusual. The game is free.
Duet
A meditative and relaxing game with as simple controls as possible. There is no main character or intricate plot, only two balls of red and blue colors, located on a circle. Pressing the left and right sides of the display rotates the circle counterclockwise or clockwise respectively. The main goal is to bypass all the obstacles on the level, if one of the balls hits the platform, the game will start over.
It is difficult to explain the essence of the gameplay in the text, I suggest watching the video:
Duet has dozens of free levels, but sometimes you have to watch ads. Additionally, they offer to buy the premium version for 189 rubles to get rid of ads and get new levels and modes. I recommend playing with headphones – the game has excellent musical accompaniment.
Lifeline
A 6-part series that brings a breath of fresh air to the text quest genre. Pavel Krizhepolskiy in his review of the first part called it a 'chat simulator' – this phrase fully describes the Lifeline series. Each episode is a separate story with its main character, who randomly (according to the plot) contacts you. In the story you will become the only friend and assistant of the GG He will ask you for advice on where to go and what to do.
The communication process looks like a chat in a messenger, only you do not have the opportunity to answer in a free form, you have two ready-made answers to choose from. The most interesting thing in Lifeline is that the game works in real time, that is, if a character went to disassemble the rubble in a spaceship, then he can only answer after (conditionally) three hours. Moreover, the game does not have to be opened, all messages go to notifications and you can reply to the hero directly from there.
I played the first two parts and was happy with the plot. The game throws up interesting situations on which the outcome of the story depends, but most likely your hero will not live to see the end on the first playthrough.
I recommend trying the Lifeline series, if you don’t mind paying for from 149 to 229 rubles for a text quest.
Pottery
Have you ever dreamed of becoming a sculptor? Buy yourself a potter's wheel and plunge into yourself while sculpting another clay cup. At least somehow you can get acquainted with this case using the game Pottery, if you can call it a game.
In Pottery, you play as an aspiring sculptor. First, you learn the skills of working on a virtual pottery wheel. Then you begin to receive tasks – to make a vessel of a certain color, shape and pattern. The more accurately the order is executed, the greater the revenue. For the money received, new materials, ornaments and patterns are bought.
In words, Pottery is perceived as something strange, but I was hooked. The game was released a long time ago (in 2010 for iOS) and is still expensive – 339 rubles. There is a trial version for your reference.
Conclusion
Such games are often not popular, so I want to learn from you, readers, about those games that seemed unusual and at the same time exciting. Call for discussion in the comments.
Thank you for attention.
