The problem of talking on the phone while driving is not new, and it is difficult to expect that it will no longer be relevant any time soon. Today's smartphones are becoming more and more advanced, more and more things are grabbing our attention, and the temptation to be distracted by a smartphone while driving is often too great. Moreover, this is not necessarily a matter of willpower, which will be required to postpone checking the number of likes on Instagram. We are constantly under psychological pressure – we feel the need to answer a call or a message, especially when it comes to a really important and urgent matter.
Manufacturers are being pushed to create a system that locks the smartphone when sensors detect that the user is driving a car or bicycle. But, for example, in a relatively recent accident with a tragic outcome, the family of the deceased chose to sue Apple for the fact that the FaceTime function was not blocked in a moving car, instead of chasing the careless driver who crashed into them, because talked on the phone.
It seems that Samsung will be the first among the leading phone manufacturers to create a solution that is more radical and effective than the previously appeared DriveMode. About a month ago, the company announced In-TrafficReply, an application currently in beta that should automatically limit driver distractions.
The app was developed by Samsung's Dutch subsidiary, and it was first announced that it would first launch in the Netherlands and then, if interested, in other markets. But user interest was evidently sufficient even before the launch, as Samsung announced the app on their blog, which most likely promises to launch the app in many regions on the first day.
The application recognizes when the user is in the car or on a bicycle and automatically turns on the In-TrafficReply mode. Now an incoming message or call is automatically rejected, and the application sends back a predefined template (like 'sorry, I'm driving') with the addition of a cute emoticon in the car – everyone understands that if the emoticon is cute enough, no one can be angry with you for long.
The app will work with popular messaging services such as Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, that is, not only with calls and SMS.
