Using information Android from 187 countries, the most popular messenger applications around the world were identified. In fact, in almost every country in the world, the messenger application is the most demanded application in general.
Out of 187 countries analyzed by SimilarWeb, WhatsApp is the world leader, leading in 109 countries, or 55.6% of the total. Among the countries that prefer this messenger are Brazil, Mexico, India, Russia and many other countries in South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania.
Messenger from Facebook ranks second, leading in 49 countries, including Australia, Canada, and the United States. Messenger is followed by Viber, the latest app that spans over 10 countries in popularity. This messenger demonstrates high popularity in Eastern Europe, occupying a leading position in Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine and others. As of April 2016, Viber is installed at 65% Android – of smartphones in Ukraine and is used on average 16 minutes per day. In addition, this application is popular in several other countries of the world: Iraq, Libya and Sri Lanka.
Line, WeChat and Telegram are three more apps whose popularity is not limited to any one country. These apps have fans in China, Iran and Japan. Earlier it became known that Line is not only the most popular messenger in Japan, but also the application that is most used by the Japanese – on average 40 minutes a day!
Finally, there are apps that are only popular in one country. Such messengers are KakaoTalk in South Korea, imo in Cuba, Zalo in Vietnam, ChatOn in Eritrea and BBM in Indonesia.
Yes, you read that correctly. The messenger from BlackBerry is still widely used in at least one country in the world – Indonesia, where no one threatens its positions. As of April 2016, BBM is installed at 87.5% Android – smartphones, which is not observed in any other country in the world. Indeed, if we compare the number of installations of this application in other countries, then a huge chasm becomes visible. In the US, only 0.42% Android – devices have the BBM messenger, in Australia and the UK the situation is not much better.
