Friends, we have long heard from the owners of WM-smartphones protests full of indignation against the stigmatization of them as 'marginalized'. On these quiet autumn days, you can calmly compare whether the old WM10 was so bad compared to Android.
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact (Android 5.1.1) and MS Lumia 650 (WM10) were used to compare the standard capabilities of operating systems. The phones were chosen solely because of the same screen resolution (HD), so that you can directly compare the views that users open when using. This material would not have been if it were not for the operational assistance of Almat, also known on specialized forums as the Jedi. For which many thanks to him. In each section you will see a double screenshot, on the left – Windows Mobile, on the right – Android.

Start screen
The first difference between the MS Windows Mobile 10 and Android OS start screens is the logic of the desktop layout. If in Android we scroll tables left or right to get to application shortcuts, then in WM it is one long desktop that scrolls from top to bottom. There are no advantages or disadvantages here, it's purely a matter of taste.
The second difference is the delimitation of labels in WM 10 with rectangular frames. But again, the difference is illusory, you can turn off the display of frames, make the background transparent and add any background image. Most of the owners of WM-smartphones do not do this only because of the long-term habit of WP7 and 7.5.
Notifications appear on app shortcuts in both places. The downside Android is that in a cheap phone with an incomprehensible launcher, there may not be notifications, but in MS Windows Mobile this is a basic function of the operating system.
General list of applications
To go to the general list of applications, the owner of Lumiya swipes across the screen to the right, and the user Android (by default) clicks on a special icon in the bottom center. The differences are similar to those on the start screen – all applications in WM 10 are arranged vertically and in alphabetical order, and in Android several desktops are arranged horizontally.
And here and there you can quickly find an application by starting to enter its name in the search bar.
Telephone
By clicking on the handset image, the user Windows Mobile 10 and the user Android see the same thing – the call history. And here and there from the general list, you can display the contact in the icon on the desktop for a quick call.
The only difference is in the design.
Camera
We compare the interface of cameras of WM-smartphones of the Lumia brand and Android – Sony's photo flags. In their less expensive cousins, the camera menu is much simpler.
In a direct comparison, the Sony camera interface loses, in Lumia all the necessary settings are available in a convenient form for obtaining a high-quality picture in manual mode.
Internet surfing
We opened the last 'Spillikins'. In Android the standard browser can be called Google Chrome, in Windows Mobile – Microsoft Edge. In Chrome, the page did not open correctly, in Edge it is perfect.
Both there and there there is a special mode for reading the article, switch to it and take screenshots:
Edge has a larger font in Reading Mode, and a smaller font in Chrome. Discussion in Disqus (comments) in this mode is not available in both. In Edge, the bottom block with switches is annoying; in Chrome, the inscription on the top 'Adapted for mobiles' is annoying.
Shutter, battery consumption report.
We see two different designs for the same switches:
You can track battery consumption in both OS:
Applications
This is perhaps the only thing where Android is objectively superior to Windows Mobile. There are more applications for Android and many of them are not available for WM 10, but mostly it concerns only toys, decorations and all kinds of software junk. Messengers, applications for working with documents and other necessary things are in both.
conclusions
Friends, the conclusions are simple. The 'marginalized' receive from the phone exactly the same services as the users Android. If Microsoft had chosen a different pricing policy and, instead of issuing bonuses to sellers, had reduced the prices for WM-smartphones to sane ones, then the era Windows Mobile would not have ended. Or maybe MCs will still show themselves? What do you think about this? And why do you think the offensive nickname 'marginal' has stuck to the owners of WM-smartphones?
