You've probably come across commercials for this game on TV, you've seen pop-ups on Facebook, or maybe one of your friends or a child is playing it right now. Clash of Clans derives from the old board games, combining their features with the experience of fast gaming on mobile devices, and as a result, you are addicted to the head, even if you were not inclined to it before.
Let's take a look at a wide variety of game-related issues, from what to do after installing it to the devices on which your gaming experience will be the best.
At its core, Clash of Clans is a strategy, the goal of which is to become the player with the maximum number of trophies. You earn trophies by attacking other people's villages or successfully defending against other online players. As you accumulate trophies, you rise in the hierarchy, and you have to meet with opponents equal or superior in strength. The most important goal on this path to the top is to reach the Champion class, this can be done by spending time and money on upgrading your village, training soldiers and developing a defense and attack strategy.
Construction phase
As with the classic 'board games', there are two main phases, building and action. The border between them is not hard, but it is worth playing a little, and you will understand where it lies. The construction phase is all about setting up your village. Builders build, gold and purple elixir are used as currency.
As your village grows, you can build new buildings that provide new ways of defense and attack. The village upgrade depends on the town hall upgrade, so it happens in steps. You collect the resources you need to improve the town hall, and then it takes some time until you rebuild the village in accordance with the opportunities that open up. As in any level-by-level game, at first everything is quick and simple, but it gets more complicated with time and with each new level.
An important part of the construction phase is protecting your village. Enemies do not attack in real time like in tower defense games. You just get a notification about the attack, and the attack can be later lost so you can see what is happening. So you can choose the right defense and try to predict what your opponent will do (from time to time you can guess, but this will rather be the exception). If you were defeated, the village can be restored by tapping on the graves that appear on the screen, but you lose all trophies and resources. You also have a shield that prevents other players from attacking you for a while, so you can reconsider your current actions and improve your defense.
Action phase
When the construction phase ends, you have time to enjoy the action phase while nothing happens. There are two options here, single player and online mode. In the first, you attack one of the goblin bases specially created to challenge you and help you learn the game's tricks. As you move above the bases, it becomes more difficult to gain the upper hand, and you need to think carefully in order to still get the gold and elixir that are given as a reward.
In online mode, you attack a village rebuilt by another player, and you have three minutes to inflict as much damage as possible.
The point of attack is to position your soldiers correctly, and then watch how they inflict damage. By placing them, you lose control over them. Most attack the nearest target until they are attacked by the defense tower. Some troops have special abilities, such as exploding, to deal damage at a distance instead of causing damage on contact. The main goal is complete destruction, after which you get the largest number of trophies, as well as additional gold and elixir. If you cannot achieve a complete victory, you simply return with a little loot.
Micro transactions: not a single victory
The game also has a third currency besides gold and elixir. These are stones that can be used to speed up the construction of buildings, the creation of troops and spells, the level of replenishment of the stock of gold and elixir. You can replace gold or elixir with stones if one of the resources has run out, but you cannot make a reverse replacement. You start out with a couple of hundred pebbles and can earn them for free by completing in-game tasks. The initial amount is spent quickly, and you will not have time to blink, as you get hooked, and then you will have to make purchases for real money.
And then they will then pay for the advertising that goes on TV.
But give the game its due, you are never asked to fork out on purpose. Moreover, the first thing that you see, only after downloading the game, in the instructions, is how to disable the ability to buy anything. The game is very child-centered and therefore it was important for the creators to give users the ability to make their own decisions from the very beginning. Everyone makes the decision for himself, and the only thing that you lose by refusing to spend real money is the opportunity to accelerate if you do not like to wait.
And this is very captivating, especially with so many games in which the goal is to win and only to win, and with so many children who have access to parental devices. Roughly speaking, the player faces other players with about the same number of trophies, and spending money simply speeds up the time, moving to new levels of difficulty. Both those who make purchases and those who avoid them can be on the same level, and using the right strategy, both of them can be defeated.
What is better to play?
If in a very general sense – on anything that has a screen and access to Google Play. But if there are reasons why it is more pleasant to do this on a tablet. The larger screen allows for more meaningful placement of buildings in the village, as well as making decisions when attacking enemies. True, on a tablet it is not so convenient to check every few hours how things are going in the village (and you will want to, believe me!). However, no one canceled the possibility of synchronization between different Android – devices, so that the village can remain under the supervision of different devices.
Clash of Clans is fun, but not pointless, like those that the modern gaming industry offers in huge numbers. It is so well done that it makes you remember yourself at any free moment, and so friendly that parents can play with their children. Here we outlined the process in general terms, but in order to fully immerse yourself in the game, you need to join a clan and start participating in clan wars, and then this world will open up to you entirely. If you've heard about the game, but were just about to try it, it's time to do it!
