Google has announced that it is increasing its core software APK limit from 50MB to 100MB when it is published on the Google Play store to support the growing number of developers building rich applications and games.

Expanding its limits on the size of the published APK file, Google gives some advice to developers in this regard:

  • Mobile data transfer: People around the world have different data rates on mobile networks. Particularly in developing countries, many people go online at slower speeds than mobile users in countries such as the United States and Japan. People with slow connections are less likely to install an app or game that takes too long to download.
  • Restrictions on data transfer on mobile networks: Please note that many mobile operators around the world limit their subscribers to the number of transmitted megabytes on the network that they can download at no additional cost. Therefore, many people are wary of downloading large files for fear of exceeding their limits.
  • Application performance: Please note that mobile devices have limitations on the amount of RAM and internal storage. Therefore, the larger the application itself, the slower it can work, for example, on older devices.
  • Install Time: People want to try an app or game as soon as possible after clicking the Install button, and the increased app size increases their wait time.

In connection with the above tips, Google hopes that under certain circumstances, this increase in file size will be beneficial and will allow you to create better applications and games that users will love.
