Google will release OS updates for Nexus devices every month

Google has announced that starting this week, its Nexus devices will receive regular monthly OTA updates focused on security issues, in addition to the usual platform updates.

Nexus9

Owners of devices such as Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10 and Nexus Player will already receive the first such update. This security update contains fixes for issues identified in security bulletins provided by our partners through July this year, including fixes for issues in the libStageFright library.

According to Google, Nexus devices will receive major system updates for at least two years, and security updates within three years from the start of sales of the device, or within 18 months from the date of the end of sales in the Google Store.

It should be noted that users of the above devices can independently install this update by downloading the 'factory' firmware (build number LMY48I) from the Google website.
