The company Huawei announced the release of a software update for its nova 2i smartphone, after which the device will be able to unlock with facial recognition and entertainment features with augmented reality technologies for the front camera.
The face recognition function Huawei of nova 2i works as follows: the user needs to enable it in the settings, let the front camera scan his face, and after that he can unlock his smartphone just by looking at the camera. It takes milliseconds to recognize and unlock the screen and enhances the convenience of everyday smartphone use.
After unlocking Huawei nova 2i offers two options to choose from: instant unlock and unlock after slide across the screen. If the second option is selected, then after unlocking the user sees the lock screen. If the smartphone does not identify its owner, it automatically removes any personal information from the lock screen, including message notifications, preventing unauthorized access.
The Face ID technology used in the Huawei nova 2i smartphone has three levels of protection. The first level is storage hardware protection. Information about the face of the owner of the smartphone is stored in a special protected area of the Kirin processor – TEE (Secure Runtime Environment). The second level – algorithmic – consists in the fact that the identification system collects information on more than 1000 face parameters, guaranteeing the accuracy of recognizing the smartphone owner among millions of other faces. Finally, the third level is the prohibition of unlocking if the user's eyes are closed. This means that no one will be able to use the smartphone while its owner is sleeping.
In addition to Face ID, after the update Huawei, the nova 2i will receive an AR Lens entertainment function for the front camera, which will allow you to take interesting selfies. By activating the AR mode of the front camera, the user can choose various background and environment options. For example, while at home, take a photo with the Eiffel Tower, London's Big Ben or Sydney's Harbor Bridge, or be in the company of your idols.
