Previous material about Guns of boom went very well: 'The novel was sold to Game Insight', 'game advertising', 'wow, how can you do that …' and the like. Therefore, I decided to continue with the game World War Heroes from the creators of Modern Strike Online.
World War Heroes is an online battle during the Second World War: 7 battle locations, 4 types of military equipment and 57 types of weapons. There are ads and in-app purchases supported.
I decided to start with what I didn't quite like – the gameplay. In order not to go into details, I will say this: a weak feeling of immersion in the game. There are few opponents, scattered across the map extremely far from each other, often you have to run for several minutes to find at least one unit. It was somewhat reminiscent of PUBG, where in 10 minutes of the game you collect loot and in 20 seconds you turn into a vegetable from one shot of some sniper 80 lvl.
As I already wrote – the maps are big. I think that so much space was painted for large-scale combat battles, but only 8 people participate in the game. However, such things are not for everybody: perhaps it is more interesting for someone to run, looking for special places of shelter, than to reveal the entire intention of the enemy in the first minute of the game.
The maps were created quite well, but it seemed to me that there are still territories where you have to be under open fire for several tens of seconds. Sorry to think about GOB again, but every stone there played a role in defense or cover.
However, WWH already has some groundwork for the future. It's good.
And here a surprise awaits you. Those who love games for great graphics will love it. All types of weapons are rendered very cool: detail, colors, materials, reflection depending on the light.
There are not many objects on the maps, but all of them are made at a high quality level. The play of light and shadow also matters here, of course, if you set the graphics parameters to 'Ultra'.
I liked the character movement. This is not a smooth ride, as with the steadicam, but light swaying from side to side. This animation gives more naturalism to the gameplay.
I specially highlighted the sound effects in a separate item, as it deserves attention. Each weapon sounds in its own way, and depending on the environment: in the room the sound of a shot will be booming, in the hall – with an echo, in an open space something in between the first two. The voice acting of the character during the battles also has several effects: dull or sound with echo.
Like any modern game, WWH will want money to quickly move up the 'career ladder'. The first two weeks you run, somehow upgrade your weapon and character, but then it gets a little boring, because to buy the German Sauer M30 three-barrel hunting rifle for 1290 credits you will have to 'hunchback' in the game for several days in real time with all the ads watching. And if something is sold for gold, then get ready to take a month's vacation.
Despite some shortcomings, mainly related to the gameplay, the game turned out to be of good quality: cool graphics, clear sound effects, large maps, a good set of weapons, several battle modes: team, deadly, 'bomb', on tanks or with one life.
